Other Criteria for Admission to Top MBA Schools besides CAT Scores
The weighting of the CAT score in the final selection process has been reduced for MBA colleges admitting 80 percentile and above in the CAT 2021 and has been increased for other metrics. In order to secure a final acceptance, offer, please keep the following factors in mind as you narrow down the top MBA colleges based on your CAT percentile:
- Your academic background: Marks of 90 percent or higher in classes 10, 12, and graduation can earn you a weightage of 20–30%.
- Work Background: In the final selection process, relevant job experience of two to three years is given a weighting of five to ten percent.
- Non-Engineering Background: Academic diversity enables you to receive an additional 2 to 5 points.
- Gender Diversity: If you are a woman, you will receive a weighting of between 3 and 5 percent above and above other criteria in the final admissions process at all top MBA programmes. All the above components can help you to get MBA admission in top B-schools like IIM Ahmedabad, GIM Goa, K J Somaiya even if your CAT score is below actual cut off.
Carefully consider your MBA options.
Despite having a high CAT percentile, you might be unable to choose one of the top MBA schools that accept 80 percentiles in CAT. You should think about the following before choosing:
- Recognitions & Approvals: The MBA/PGDM programme should be AICTE-approved or UGC-recognized.
- Program Fee: Top MBA universities with cheap fees ranging from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 6 lakhs are accepting applicants with a CAT score of 80 percent or higher. These include, among others, MBA programmes connected with the Delhi University, Mumbai University, and GGSIPU Delhi. If your CAT percentile meets the criteria, getting an MBA from one of these institutions is just as excellent as getting one from an IIM, where tuition costs between 16 and 24 lakhs. Your wallet will suffer more the higher the cost.
- Programs Provided: Before submitting an application for admission, it is preferable to review the programmes the business school offers. If the institute does not offer an MBA in finance, there is no use in seeking for admission.
- Placements: Pick the top MBA programme that has a history of successful placements and an increasing average income.
- Academics: The top pick should be an institute with highly skilled and research-focused faculty.
- Infrastructure: The campus of the institute must be in good condition and well furnished with the newest textbooks, a library, wi-fi, and other amenities that promote learning.
- Students’ Hostel: Many MBA institutions lack on-campus dorms of their own. Reduced peer learning is the result. Select an MBA school that offers on-campus housing.
