What is CAT?

CAT full form is Common Admission Test is a computer-based test for postgraduate management admission in prestigious MBA institutes. The exam is divided into three sections namely 

  • VARC - verbal ability and reading comprehension, 
  • DILR - data interpretation and logical reasoning, and 
  • QA - quantitative ability

The exam is held online in 2 hours i.e. 40 minutes for each section. On a rotating basis, one of the Indian Institutes of Management administers CAT tests each year. IIM Lucknow is administering the CAT exam 2023.

CAT exam 2023 syllabus has not been released by IIMs but the CAT 2022 exam syllabus gives an idea about the exam pattern. There will be 66 questions in total and the time duration to attempt the paper will be 120 minutes (2 hours).

CAT exam 2023 fees is Rs. 2400 for unreserved students, and Rs. 1200 for reserved category students. 

CAT Exam Pattern – Evaluation

Exam pattern of CAT 2022 shows that the level of difficulty in the CAT question paper was moderate and the Total no. of question were 66. In 2021 the no. of questions in the CAT exam was 66, whereas in the year 2020, the question paper had 76 questions in total. We can say that the CAT exam pattern for 2022 was as same as CAT 2021. In the year 2019, the number of questions were 100 to be attempted in 3 hours (180 minutes).
