Group Discussion, often known as GD

One of the most important parts of the MBA admissions process is the group discussion, sometimes known as GD for short. This part of the process can either make or break your chances of being accepted into the business school of your choice. Why? Because having a conversation in a group has been shown to be an effective method for determining whether or not an individual is suitable for a profession or degree in business management. GDs are used to evaluate a candidate’s whole personality, including their knowledge, point of view, leadership skills, communication skills, and behaviour in a group setting. These are all characteristics that are necessary for a successful manager. In India’s top MBA schools, both IIMs and non-IIMs, group discussions (GD) play a significant role in the selection process for candidates, who must demonstrate both the ability and the disposition to become successful business leaders.

Now that the results of the CAT 2022 exam have been out and you are aware of how you performed, Start getting ready for the written, oral, and group discussion portions of the admissions process for IIMs and other top MBA programmes in India.

What exactly is a Group Discussion, also known as a GD, for MBA students?

A GD is typically between 20 and 25 minutes long and consists of a topic being presented to a group of students for the purpose of discussion. Before beginning the conversation, students have around five minutes to prepare general discussion topics that are currently trending. Throughout the course of the conversation, the members of the panel will evaluate the speakers based on their command of the English language, their level of self-assurance, the clarity of their thoughts, their capacity to present an argument in a way that is convincing, and their level of leadership quality. These are the qualities that are essential to an individual’s success as a business manager or an administrator.

The rounds of top business schools often begin in February and go all the way through August. These rounds consist of a group discussion and a written ability test. The GD and PI rounds for the 2023 session will get underway somewhere in February of that same year. In order to succeed in the MBA interview process, prospective MBA students need to familiarise themselves with current and relevant GD issues.
