Cut Offs
MAT cut-off percentiles for MBA/PGDM admission are set by each college that takes the test based on a number of factors. The MAT cutoffs are used to narrow down the candidates for the second round of the MBA admissions process, which is the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). At the time of admissions for each school year, the participating institutes announce their MAT cut-offs. At the best colleges, the cutoffs for getting into MAT 2023 range from the 95th to the 65th percentile.
At different B-Schools, admissions for the 2023–2024 school year have started based on MAT scores. This article tells you everything you need to know about the MAT 2023 cut-off and the MAT percentile, including what factors affect them and what the expected cut-offs are for this school year.
The MAT cut-off percentiles are the same for all three types of tests (CBT, PBT, and IBT). There is no difference in MAT cut-offs based on how the test is taken. It means that a candidate with a 95 percentile on the IBT is eligible for admission, as is a candidate with a 95 percentile on the IBT. Also, if a candidate has taken the MAT test more than once, the best score from all of those attempts can be used for admission.
The score on the MAT must be above the 90th percentile for top MBA schools to accept it. Some colleges only look at the overall MAT score when deciding who to invite to GD and PI. Other colleges also look at the candidate’s MAT composite score and MAT sectional scores.

Frequently Asked Questions About MAT 2023 Cutoff
Q. What does “MAT cut off” mean?
Ans. The MAT cut-off is the minimum score needed to move on to the next rounds (GD/PI) for MBA admission based on the MAT score. To be shortlisted for the next round of admissions, you have to pass the MAT cutoff.
Q. Does the MAT have a sectional cutoff for admission?
Ans. Some MAT-participating schools look at sectional cutoffs in addition to the overall cutoff, while other schools only look at the overall MAT score. Candidates should look at the admissions requirements of the school they want to attend to see what kinds of cutoffs they accept.
Q. What is a “combined score” on MAT?
Ans. The MAT composite score is the total number of points earned in the first four parts of the test: Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, and Intelligence & Critical Reasoning.
Q. How do you figure out the MAT Composite Score?
Ans. The MAT score is based on a scale from 199 to 801. The score on the General Knowledge section is not added to the MAT’s total score.
Q. What does AIMA have to do with the MAT percentile or the MAT cut-off?
Ans. No, AIMA has nothing to do with the MAT cut-off. Each college that takes the MAT decides for itself what the cutoffs are. The raw score is the only thing that AIMA uses to figure out a candidate’s MAT percentile.
Q. Is it enough to meet the MAT cutoff to get in?
Ans. No. Even if you pass the MAT, that doesn’t mean you’ll get into the institute. Final admission is based on how well a candidate did on the MAT exam, the group discussion, the personal interview, and their grades.
Q. How is the MAT cutoff decided?
Ans. The MAT cut-off for a given academic session is based on a number of factors, such as the number of people taking the test, how hard it is, and how many seats are available.
Q. What is a good MAT percentile to get into a college?
Ans. A good MAT score is anything above a composite score of 400. Most MBA schools that accept MAT look for students with scores between the 80th and 99th percentiles.
Q. How many MBA schools in India will let you in with a MAT score?
Ans. More than 1300 MBA schools will let you in if you have a good MAT score. The AIMA has put these MBA schools on a list of those that will accept test scores for admission.
Q. Can I take the MAT test again in the same year if I don’t do well the first time?
Ans. Yes, you can take the MAT more than once in the same year. The test is given in February, May, September, and December, and you can sign up for it almost all year long.
