Language Comprehension by Section on the 2022 MAT Exam

As usual, this part of the MAT test has 40 questions. Most of the questions aren’t too hard, but there are a few that are. In the Language Comprehension section, you can get a 90 percentile if you get 27 to 28 points. There were five RC passages that were not too hard or too easy. The rest of the questions were about errors in sentence structure, antonyms, and synonyms, filling in the blanks, replacing one word, phrases and idioms, replacing words, and jumbled paragraphs.

Skills with numbers

There were also 40 questions in the Mathematical Skills section. About 15 of the questions were about math concepts like interest, percentages, time and work, profit, loss, and partnerships. All of the questions were about the same level of hardness and took about the same amount of time to answer.

The rest of the questions were about Geometry, Measurement, Ratios and Proportions, Probability, Permutations and Combinations, Equations, etc. In this part, you could get a score of 90+ percentile with 29-30 points.

Analysis of Data and Sufficiency

About half of this part of the MAT was made up of questions about how to interpret graphs, pie charts, bar diagrams, charts, line graphs, and data comparisons. The other half of the section was made up of questions from the Data Sufficient and Data Comparison sections. With a score of 20–23, candidates can get 90 percentile or more.

Intelligence and Critical Thinking

This part of the MAT IBT question paper had more questions about logical and analytical reasoning and fewer questions about critical reasoning. There were questions on Family Relationships, Statement Cause, and Effect, Statement-Assumptions, Reasons, Analogies and Direction, Series, and Incorrect terms. This part could be thought of as long. Candidates could get 90+ percentile with a score of 26–27.

Frequently Asked Questions About MAT Paper Analysis

Q. Does the format of the MAT IBT test differ from that of the MAT PBT and CBT?

Ans. No, the MAT IBT test is the same as the MAT PBT test and the MAT CBT test. The IBT question paper has 200 questions that are evenly split into five sections: Language Comprehension, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, and Indian and Global Environment.

Q. Is MAT IBT more difficult than MAT PBT and MAT CBT?

Ans. No, MAT is a simple to moderately hard test, no matter how you take it. The only difference between IBT and PBT/CBT is that IBT can be done at home, while PBT and CBT are done at MAT exam centers.

Q. Is the MAT IBT question paper different for each time slot?

Ans. Yes, the question papers for each time slot are slightly different so that students who take the test after the first time slot don’t get an unfair advantage.

Q. What’s the difference between MAT PBT and MAT CBT?

Ans. The MAT Paper-Based Test (PBT) is a paper-based test where candidates mark the correct answers on an OMR sheet. The MAT CBT is a computer-based test where candidates have to choose the right answer from a list on the screen.

Q. What part of the MAT test is usually the hardest?

Ans. Most people think that Language Comprehension Intelligence & Critical Reasoning are harder than the other parts of the MAT exam. But the MAT exam is much easier than other tests for getting into MBA programs.

Q. How many points do I need to get a 90% on the MAT?

Ans. A score of about 110 to 112 on the MAT exam is good enough to get a 90 percentile. The candidates must try to get a total score between 110 and 112 on the first four parts of the MAT.

Q. Does MAT offer the chance to recheck and reevaluate?

Ans. No, you can’t recheck and reevaluate your answers on the MAT. The official answer keys for the test are also not given out. Candidates can take the MAT again if they want to improve their scores.

Q. Can I take the MAT again in the next session if I’m not happy with my score?

Ans. Yes, anyone can take the MAT exam more than once. Four times a year, in February, May, September, and December, the MAT is given. So, if someone isn’t happy with how they did on the test, they can take it again in the next phase.

Q. Which part of the MAT test has the most weight?

Ans. Each of the five parts of the MAT is worth 40 points and has 40 questions. But the MAT percentile does not take into account the score in the Indian and Global Environment sections.

Q. If the GK section doesn’t count toward the final score, can I skip it on the exam?

Ans. Even though the GK score doesn’t count toward the final score, candidates are encouraged to do well in that section as well. This will help the admissions committee get a better sense of the candidate as a whole, and knowing GK will help in the Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.
