Nalanda University History

Nearly simultaneously, the government of Singapore offered the "Nalanda Proposal" to the government of India, calling for the restoration of old Nalanda in order to make it the center of Asia once more. In the same vein, the State Government of Bihar quickly embraced the innovative concept and sought advice from the Indian Government on the best course of action. It also started looking for an appropriate place for the future Nalanda University at that time.

The foundation of contemporary Nalanda University continues to be diversity, a knowledge ecosystem thriving on the shared creation of new information, and an international viewpoint that set the old Nalanda University apart. As a result, the sixteen East Asia Summit (EAS) member states' leaders agreed to revive Nalanda when they met in the Philippines in January 2007. At the 4th East Asia Summit in 2009, ASEAN members Australia, China, Korea, Singapore, and Japan pledged to continue their assistance. The institution received land for its new campus from the Bihar State Government, which had previously purchased it from locals.
