What is new at IIT Madras?

JEE Main 2024 registration has begun for Session 1, and students seeking admission may apply until November 30, 2023. In addition, the JEE Main test 2024 for session 1 will be held between January 24, 2024, and February 1, 2024. The JEE Main Session 2 examination will be administered between April 1 and 15, 2024. A few more updates on the IIT Madras cutoff 2024 are provided below  

  • On November 18, 2023, IISc Bangalore will launch the GATE 2024 application correction window. The deadline for GATE form modification is November 24, 2023. The GATE 2024 exam will again be held on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024.
  • The online registration session for IIT JAM 2024 has been closed. IIT JAM 2024 Admit Card will be available for download online on January 8, 2024. In addition, the IIT JAM 2024 test will be taken on February 11, 2024.

IIT Madras, established in 1959, is a well-known technology and scientific organization. IIT Madras is consistently ranked first among India's top engineering colleges overall. IIT Madras is made up of 19 departments and around 100 programs. IIT Madras is a 250-hectare campus with 550 teaching members, 8000 students, and 1250 administrative and support workers. IIT Madras has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with a number of foreign universities for student exchange programs. Students enrolling in the institute's UG, PG, and Dual Degree programs will spend a semester abroad to obtain broad experience, according to the signed MoUs.

The most popular of IIT Madras' 121 courses is the B.Tech and Online Degree program. The institute's flagship curriculum is BTech. The JEE Advanced exam rank is used to determine admission to the degree program. The IIT Madras BTech program requires a minimum rank of 42 to 3150. The entire cost of the BTech program per year is INR 2.1 Lakhs. 

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras or IITM) was founded in 1959 as a public technical and research university, and it was accredited as an 'Institute of Eminence' in 1960. It is the Government of India's third and only self-contained IIT. The IITMR, India's first university-based research park, is located on the campus of IIT Madras in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. IIT Madras Cutoff Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 

To appear in JEE Advanced 2024, a candidate must fulfill five qualifications. Changes to JEE Advanced 2024 Eligibility will be posted here. JEE Advanced is open to the following engineering students:

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2024 - JEE Main 2024 Performance

  • Candidates must place in the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main 2024 Paper 1 (including reserved categories).
  • In the event of tied ranks/scores, the total number of candidates may exceed 2,50,000.
  • The following percentages of candidates will be considered for shortlisting: 10% is reserved for GEN-EWS, 27% is reserved for OBC-NCL, 15% is reserved for SC, 7.5% is reserved for ST, and the rest 40.5% is OPEN to all. 
  • In each of these four categories, PwD candidates are eligible for 5% horizontal reservation.

Eligibility Criteria 2 for Advanced JEE 2024 - Maximum Age

Candidates must have been born between the 1st of October, 1998 and the 1st of October, 1999. Applicants who are SC, ST, or PWD obtain a five-year relaxation; these candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 1993.

3rd JEE Advanced 2024 Eligibility Criteria - Number of Attempts

A candidate may take JEE Advanced no more than thrice in succession.

Eligibility Criteria 4 for JEE Advanced 2024 - Class XII Passing Year

Candidates must have passed the class XII (or equivalent) examination in either 2021 or 2024, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects.

JEE Advanced 2024 Eligibility Criteria 5 - Exclusive Admission to IITs

  • Candidates who have previously been admitted to an IIT/ISM (regardless of whether they completed the program) OR accepted an IIT seat by reporting at a reporting center are unable to apply.
  • Candidates who had their admission to IIT revoked after enrolling are ineligible.

Class 12 Equivalent Examination 

  • The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) requires a Class XII diploma from a Central or State Board recognized by the AIU.
  • Final exam or two-year course at the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
  • The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts a senior high school exam covering at least five courses.
  • Any AIU-accredited school, board, or institution in India or anywhere in the world. High school vocational examination
  • A three-year certificate from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or a State Board of Technical Education is required.
  • Advanced (A) level General Certificate of Education (GCE) (London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka) examination
  • Cambridge University High School Certificate Exam or International Baccalaureate Diploma from Geneva's International Baccalaureate Office

Class XII (Or Equivalent) Board Exam Results

Candidates for admission to IITs must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 75% on the class 12 (or equivalent) board exam is required. In the Class XII Board examination in 2024 or 2021, the aggregate marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates should be at least 65%, with Physics, Chemistry, and Math as compulsory subjects.
  • Must have received a score in the top 20% of their respective class 12 (or equivalent) board exams in 2024 or 2021, with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as required subjects. 

If a Board provides letter grades without a percentage equivalent, the candidate must present a certificate from the Board that shows the comparable marks against the grades. The aggregate and cut-off marks for satisfying the top 20%ile requirements will be determined using marks received in the five disciplines listed below:

  • Physics and Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • A language (the highest-scoring language will be considered if the individual has taken more than one language).
  • Any subject other than the four specified above (the subject with the highest score will be considered).

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2024 for Foreign Nationals

Candidates who are foreign nationals for JEE Advanced will fall under one of the following categories:

  • Non-Indian citizens (born or naturalized)
  • There are two types of people: non-OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) and non-PIO (Persons of Indian Origin).
  • Candidates whose parents are not Indian citizens and do not qualify for OCI/PIO status at the time of enrollment for JEE Advanced 2024.

Seats for Foreign Nationals

Foreign national seats are supernumerary, with a cap of 10% of total seats in each course.

Reservation for Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals are not eligible for reservations under the Government of India's OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, ST, and PwD (Persons with Disabilities) categories.

Eligibility

If all other qualifying conditions are met, those interested are not required to take JEE Main and may register for JEE Advanced 2024 directly.

  • Students must have been born between October 1, 1997 and October 1, 1998. 
  • Maximum number of attempts in a single year: two.
  • Appearance in Class 12: Between the years 2021 and 2024, a student must have taken the Class 12 (or similar) exam for the first time. 

Results in the Class 12 or Equivalent Exam

Candidates for admission to IITs must meet at least one of the two requirements given below:

  • A minimum of 75% on the class 12 (or equivalent) board exam is required.
  • Must have placed in the top 20% of all successful class 12 (or equivalent) board exam candidates.
