At the time of admission, students will be asked to submit the details to check their eligibility if they want to avail of this scheme, and assistance will be provided only to the selected students after confirming their eligibility. 

  • IIM Shillong scholarships include a Need-Based Financial Assistance Scheme to help MBA students from financially challenged backgrounds. 
  • The need-based financial assistance is for students with an excellent academic record but with limited finances. 
  • The seats available for this financial assistance are limited and it depends upon the number of students with low annual family income.

Scholarships offered by the Government of India 

Apart from the Need-Based financial assistance scheme under IIM Shillong scholarships, the institute actively facilitates several scholarships offered by the Government of India for students who fall under reserved categories (Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe / People with Disabilities).

There are three categories of scholarships offered by the government of India are available at IIM Shillong. Each scholarship has specific eligibility criteria that applicants must meet to be considered.

National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students 

  • These scholarships are available to students who belong to the ST category and want to pursue higher degree courses like M.Phil., and Ph.D. 
  • To be eligible for the National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students (Central Sector Scheme), students must have passed their Master's Degree examination.
  • Students will be selected based on merit. Eligible students can apply for the scholarships through the official website, https://fellowship.tribal.gov.in. 
  • There are a total of 750 seats available for the National Fellowship and Scholarship programs. 
  • If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available seats for the fellowship program, post-graduation marks will be considered for the final selection.
  • If the number of students from the ST Category is lesser than the available seats, the scholarship seats not availed by students during that year will be carried forward to the next academic year.

National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students (Central Sector Scheme): Eligibility and Duration of the Scholarship for M.Phil. and Ph.D.;

Income Criteria: There are no income criteria for the eligible students under the National Fellowship and Scholarship. 
Age Limit: The maximum age limit for eligibility is 36 years, as of the first day of July in the year when the scholarship is awarded.

The National Fellowship and Scholarship is offered as reimbursement of the program fee and other costs incurred. The reimbursement amount allowed for each course and the stream is given below;

What are the documents required during the scholarship application process? The important documents needed during the application are given below;

  • ST/PVTG certificate.
  • 10th or equivalent certificate (in support of date of birth).
  • Divyangjan certificate.
  • Post-graduation mark sheet.

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for College and University Students 

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for College and University Students aims to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low-income families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing degree programs. 

  • Students with a gross family income of up to INR 4.5 lakh per year are eligible for scholarships under the scheme.
  • A total of 82,000 seats are available as fresh scholarships every year for pursuing graduate or postgraduate courses in colleges and universities and for professional courses.
  • Eligible students can apply through the NSP Portal when the application process for the scholarship starts.

Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses 

The Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses solely provides financial assistance to meritorious students with low annual family incomes belonging to minority communities. The scholarship is carefully crafted to benefit students studying professional and technical courses. 

  • Students with more than 50% marks or equivalent grades in the previous final examination and an annual family income from all sources that does not exceed INR 2.50 lakhs are eligible for the scholarship.
  • The minority section eligible for the scholarship includes Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.
  • A total of 60,000 scholarship seats are available as fresh scholarships, besides, renewal scholarships.
