IIM Calcutta Placement Process

Summer Placement

The two-year Post-Graduate Course in Management has a mandatory course requirement of an 8-week summer internship. After finishing the first year of the academic program, each student in the course is required to work in the industry for a total of two months, in the summer months of April and May.

The Summer Placement procedure is done every year in November to assist students in finding internships and assist recruiters in locating candidates to intern with their companies.

The goal of the summer internship is to provide students the chance to apply management theories they acquired in the first year to a real-world project so they can better comprehend and analyze business issues that arise in the real world. Additionally, internships help students get a feel for the field they are working in, which aids them in making decisions about their long-term career trajectories. They also allow employers a chance to assess candidates in a more informal setting and identify the best fit for their organizations.

Personal interviews conducted on campus are usually the basis for selection. The summer intern works under the supervision of a company executive (company project guide), who monitors, assesses, and provides feedback to the institution on the student's performance throughout the summer internship. The institute must receive a copy of the project report and the firm project guide's feedback from the summer intern. For students in the PGDM programs, the summer project is comparable to one course; for those in the fellowship (Doctorate) programs, it is equivalent to two courses.

Lateral Placements

Placements in the laterals are mostly intended for applicants with a greater background in the workforce. Only job candidates with at least 10 months' worth of experience can participate in the later procedure. A month or two before final placements, IIMs begin their lateral placement process.
