AMU Professor demonstrates difficult airway techniques at PIMS, Chandigarh

ALIGARH : Prof S. Moied Ahmed, Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University delivered a video-supported lecture on “Emergency Front of Neck Access – What, Why, When & How” at the CME-cum-Workshop organized by the Society of Trauma Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Chandigarh.
Prof Ahmed demonstrated various techniques for managing a patient who has reached a “Complete Ventilation Failure or Cannot Intubated and Cannot Oxygenated” state. He said that this is a very rare situation and resident doctors and most of the anesthesiologists usually do not experience this crisis during their training period or during their lifetime. So, doctors need to learn and practice these techniques and be prepared to tackle such a crisis.
Recommending three techniques suggested by the All India Difficult Airway Association, he discussed the Surgical / Scalpel Bougie technique, Canula technique and Needle Cricothyroidotomy technique, and also imparted hands-on training in these techniques with the help of manikins and animal models.
