CAT stands for Common Admission Test, which is conducted annually throughout the country. 

This exam is a key management entrance test for admission to IIM and other business schools across India. 

To be admitted to business schools and IIM, the candidate must pass the entrance exam to be admitted to desired universities.

Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2023

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the CAT exam: 

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% of the total grades (45% for reserved category candidates) and have a degree from an accredited university. 

Adult candidates may also apply for the CAT entrance exam, but the candidate must have proof of degree at the time of admission; otherwise, the candidate's admission will be aborted.

CAT 2023 Academic Placement 

Criteria IIM publishes the official notification for the CAT 2023 exam. The official notification lists all results and scores. 

IIMs and other management universities assess student suitability at various stages of the selection process. CAT Terms of Service before attempting CAT. 

Failure to comply with the CAT 2023 Conditions of Participation will automatically result in the cancellation of registration.

This means that if at any point in the selection process the authority determines that you are ineligible, they may cancel your application.

The eligibility requirements to sit the CAT 2023 exam are listed below: 

  • To apply for the CAT 2023 entrance exam, candidates must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university (UGC/MHRD/AICTE) with at least 50% of the Overall grade received score at the UG level. 
  • Candidates who are in the reserved category will receive a 5% discount. From now on, they can achieve at least 45% as a minimum qualifying grade. 
  • Final-year graduates who are awaiting final semester results can take the CAT 2023 exam. 
  • However, candidates will be admitted to the course if they pass the exam with a score of 50%.
  • Otherwise, your application will be canceled in the admissions process. 
  • In addition, the candidates must submit the original qualification sheets of the UG degree. Then only the release is confirmed. 
  • Candidates with a four-year engineering degree can also apply. for CAT. Minimum qualifying grades must be over 50%.
  • Candidates who have completed their professional courses as CA/CS/ICWA are also eligible to take the entrance exam. 
  • There is no age limit for taking the CAT 2023 entrance exam.

CAT 2023 Reservation Criteria 

After meeting the CAT 2023 admission criteria, the goal of each student is to gain admission to the IIMs. 

IIMs are government institutions. Therefore, they must comply with government guidelines on reservations for underprivileged privileged groups. 

The criteria also apply to the CAT. There are two types of seat reservations at IIMs: individual seats for people with disabilities and seats based on caste.

Reserve Percentage: 

Students must complete the correct category on the application form to be eligible for the reserve. 

The reserve percentage is 7.5%, 15%, and 27 for ST/SC/PBC/PWD, respectively.

CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria Age Limit 

Please note that there is no specified age limit in the CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria. 

Therefore, students of any age who meet other requirements are eligible for the CAT exam. 

CAT exam eligibility criteria for students who are lagging behind 

It is one of the most common questions. 

It should be noted that CAT applicants who are lagging academically are still eligible to apply and register for the exam. 

Any applicant with a score of at least 50% (45% for the reserved category) for CAT 2023 may apply.

CAT Eligibility for Seniors: 

All undergraduate seniors are eligible to apply for the CAT exam

In the case of an additional qualification, however, these students must complete their bachelor's degree with the required qualification and present it at the time of selection.

The candidate's score at the following admission levels is zero if he/she cannot meet this condition.

CAT Eligibility Criteria: Prior Work Experience Requirements 

There is no prior work experience requirement for candidates. 

There is no obligation to comply even if the CAT 2023 application form requires it. 

It is worth noting that IIMs can add significant weight to this work experience in the final exam. However, the actual weight has never been published and will vary from IIM to IIM.

IIM Eligibility vs. CAT Eligibility 

IIMs have different skill requirements to have CAT. 

All applicants wishing to study at an IIM have some minor discrepancies to consider. 

A two-year bachelor's degree that has passed the eligibility criteria for the CAT exam will not be accepted. of IIM and its management programs require a three-year bachelor's degree, although there is no age restriction for either the CAT exam score or the IIM score. 

The CAT exam score and IIM score are equivalent in all other respects.

Who is ineligible for the CAT 2023 exam 

  • An applicant who did not meet the requirements and did not show up for their bachelor's degree. 
  • A candidate who received less than 45% (for SC/ST/PWD) or less than 50% (for general category and NC-OBC) on graduation. 
  • A candidate who is pursuing both a bachelor's and a professional degree, but has not yet completed both. 
  • A candidate holding a diploma from a university not accredited by UGC, AICTE, or MHRD.
  • The applicant will be excluded from taking the CAT exam.

CUSAT CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria for Instrumentation Technology B.Tech 

  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum math score of 50%. 
  • Candidates must have passed Standard Examination 12 with at least 50% in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • CUSAT CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Naval Architecture & Ship Building 
  • Applicants must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their proficiency test at another equivalent authority or university. 
  • Applicants must have a 60% score in PCM and a 50% score in Math.

CUSAT CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Marine Engineering 

  • Applicants must take Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects. 
  • Applicants must not be more than 25 years old as of September 1 of the admission year. 
  • Applicants must have achieved 60% grades in PCM and 50% grades in English.
  • Candidates must have passed their 10+2 Examination (or equivalent) from the Kerala Commission or another equivalent body or university. 
  • Applicants must have a valid physical and ophthalmic medical certificate issued by a medical officer approved by DG Shipping.

CAT Admission Criteria: Calculation of Score 

The calculation of the score for admission to the CAT exam is as follows: 

Universities/institutes follow their criteria for awarding post-graduation scores. The calculation of the CAT scores is based on this process. 

If the university assigns grades or CGPA instead of grades, the conversion method provided by the university must be used to convert grades to percentages.

If the university does not have a method of converting the grades/CGPA into a percentage, this must be done by direct conversion. 

This means that the candidate must divide the achieved CGPA by the highest possible CGPA and multiply the result by 100.

Individuals with Disabilities: Reservation

The PwD reserve category includes candidates with the following problems/disabilities: 

  • Candidates with hearing impairments Candidates with visual impairment/blindness.
  • Candidates with movement disabilities or cerebral palsy, cured leprosy, dwarfism, victims of acid attacks and muscular dystrophy, Autism, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability, and Mental Illness Multiple disabilities in persons under clauses (a) to (d) Other “Specified. 
  • Disabilities” Mentioned in “The Timeline” of the RPwD Act 2016 These conditions make candidates eligible for the category of people with disabilities in all universities under CAT. 
  • However, there is a caveat that candidates must have at least 40% of the handicap listed above to be eligible.
  • Candidates with disabilities will receive an additional 20 minutes per segment depending on their condition. 
  • A clerk will be provided for candidates with visual impairments along with a wheelchair for candidates with motor disabilities or blindness. 

Important Information for Reserved Category Candidates 

  • SC/ST category candidates must have been included in the Government of India calendar. Submit caste or rank certificates only in state-approved formats. 
  • The format must specify:
  • Name of Caste/Tribe 
  • If a candidate is of SC or district and State or Union Territory of the candidate's residence appropriate calendar of the Government of India by which the candidate's Caste/Tribe is recognized by him as SC or ST. 
  • Load the Certificates during CAT registration.
  • Certificates will be required during interview time.

CAT reservation by CAT EWS quota 

EWS candidates who are among the general quota candidates will be granted a 10% reservation. 

Who falls into the EWS category? 

Individuals who are not covered by the reserve scheme for SC, ST, and OBCs and whose family has a gross annual income of less than Rs 8 lakh are identified as EWS for the benefit of the reserve only. 

The benefit of the reserve under EWS can be claimed by providing a certificate of income and assets issued by a competent authority.

Who cannot access the EWS quota? 

Regardless of family income, applicants are not eligible for the EWS fee if they fall under any of the following:
