Vijaybhoomi University’s Kanyathon bags the Prestigious Engagement and Impact Award from SPJIMR

Mumbai: Kanyathon, Vijaybhoomi University’s leading initiative focused on empowering women and promoting girl child education, has been honored with the esteemed Engagement and Impact Award hosted by SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai. Presented by SPJIMR’s Development of Corporate Citizenship (DoCC) department during the prestigious SIA (Social Impact Award) and PRME Chapter India event hosted on the 5th of December 2024, this award recognizes initiatives that demonstrate exceptional social impact and engagement.

The award, a testament to Kanyathon’s significant contributions, was the result of a rigorous evaluation process conducted by an international jury. Kanyathon’s innovative approach and measurable impact on society distinguished it from numerous other entries, reinforcing its dedication to creating meaningful change. This recognition underscores the initiative’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and enhancing educational opportunities, positioning Kanyathon as a beacon of social transformation.

The award was received by Mrs. Kalpana Padode, Member of the Board, of Vijaybhoomi University, on behalf of Kanyathon. Expressing her gratitude for the recognition, Mrs. Kalpana Padode stated, “This award is a reflection of the relentless efforts of the Kanyathon team and our partners. It strengthens our determination to continue supporting young girls and women through education and skill development. We are honored and inspired to amplify our impact and reach more communities.

The award ceremony took place at SPJIMR, featured a keynote address by Mr. Bezwada Wilson, Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and founder of the Safai Karmachari Andolan. His speech underscored the critical role of initiatives like Kanyathon in driving societal progress. Kanyathon’s initiatives include sponsoring the education of girls from red-light districts in Pune and Mumbai, awarding scholarships worth ₹15 lakhs to girls for higher education, and operating five Kanyathon Shiksha Kendras (KSK) that provide English and computer skills training to more than 300 students. The initiative also collaborates with organizations like CRY – Child Rights and You, MaitriBodh Parivaar, Mumbai Smiles, and Sparsh NGO to expand its reach. Through its partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Kanyathon has ensured a year’s supply of mid-day meals for students at their Bangalore KSK. Additionally, it has distributed reusable sanitary napkins to schoolgirls in Karjat, Bangalore, and Kolar districts, promoting health and hygiene awareness.
