Tamil Nadu Deluge: Vellore Shuts Schools for Class 1 to 5 Amidst Torrential Rainfall
Due to severe rains in the state, the Vellore district government has ordered that all courses from 1 to 5 be cancelled. Yesterday, rain fell in numerous areas of Tamil Nadu. Due to the persistent rain, all schools in the Vellore district have been ordered to halt lessons for students in grades one through five on September 21.
“Due to heavy rainfall in Vellore, waterlogging was observed on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway in Konavattam.” Due to the rain, the District Administration has cancelled lessons for grades 1-5 in all district schools, according to ANI.
On September 21 and 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted mild to moderate rainfall in portions of Tamil Nadu. “Light to moderate #rainfall with one or two intense spells is possible over Northeast India, coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Uttarakhand.” SkyMet predicts “scattered light to moderate rain over Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, West Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and interior Karnataka.”
Due to severe rains, the state declared a vacation for schools in Chennai and its adjoining districts of Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur, as well as Vellore and Ranipet, in June.
Heavy rain is forecast in the Nilgiris and Ghat regions of Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, and Madurai districts, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The meteorological service has predicted mild to moderate rain in a few spots in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The meteorological service has issued a yellow notice for 13 districts, including Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore, Theni, Didigul, Salem, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Tiruchi, Erode, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur, and Karurur.
