IIT Madras has introduced a new four-year online Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Systems programme today. Tuition fees

According to the institute, the cost of the BS in Electronic Systems programme would be reasonable, and additional scholarships will be given to students who fall under the SC/ST/PwD categories, as well as those whose families make less than Rs 5 lakh annually, in order to ensure inclusivity.

Eligibility

The only requirement for eligibility for this programme is that the applicant should have studied mathematics and physics as part of their Class 12 education, regardless of age (or equivalent). For this programme, applicants won’t need a JEE score; instead, a four-week qualifying process is built in. The qualifying exam will be based only on the four weeks of material delivered by IIT Madras faculty that applicants will have access to. The institute promised that throughout this time, candidates will receive adequate support in the form of live seminars and discussion forums.

There is no cap on the number of seats available in the programme, therefore anyone who achieves the minimum required score on the qualification exam may continue. Once they pass their board exams this year, students who will be in Class 12 in 2023 can also apply, get admitted, and begin the programme. Working professionals or students enrolled in any other academic programme (as permitted by current UGC standards) may also apply and advance their skills in this field.

Course Organisation

Quizzes and exams would be given in person, despite the fact that the course material would be offered online. A proctored in-person exam will also be offered as a qualifier in more than 150 cities across the nation and abroad. The curriculum consists of a variety of theory and laboratory courses that will be instructed by teachers from IIT Madras and professionals from the industry. Students will receive reading materials, weekly tests, tutorials, and interactive question-and-answer sessions as part of the courses, all of which can be completed online. During around two weeks each semester, the students enrolled in the laboratory courses must be physically present at IIT Madras.
