In order to create an IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi, India, and the United Arab Emirates signed an agreement today.

After the IIT Madras, the IIT Delhi will be the second university to establish a campus abroad. IIT Madras recently declared that the doors of its international campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania, will open in October 2023.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted,”MoU for establishment of @iitdelhi campus in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Hon. PM @narendramodiji unfolds a new chapter in internationalisation of India’s education.”

In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and UAE Minister of State for Early Education Sara Musallam inked the agreement. The PM is on a day visit to the UAE.

With the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, the Union Ministry of Education has made a deal

The IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus will start offering master’s degree programmes in January of the coming year, while bachelor’s degree programmes won’t start there until September of 2024.

Pradhan previously stated that the opening of the IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi is a cause for joy. “This endeavour is a testament of the two countries’ effective leadership. This will further solidify the two nations’ cooperation in the area of education, he had predicted.

Of all the engineering schools in the nation, IIT Delhi was placed second in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023. In the NIRF 2023, it earned three positions in the research and overall categories.

Preeti Aghayalam will lead the IIT Zanzibar, according to an announcement made by IIT Madras director V Kamakoti. There will initially be 70 seats available for BSc and MSc courses in data science and artificial intelligence (AI) at the IIT Madras international campus. The new academic year will start on October 24, 2023.

IIT DELHI to be Second after IIT Madras

After IIT Madras, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is the second IIT to announce the creation of an offshore campus. IIT Madras inked an MoU last week to establish a campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

This action encourages educational collaboration and opportunity in the region and represents a significant expansion of the famed IIT system outside of Indian borders.

The IIT Madras at Zanzibar campus is scheduled to open in October 2023 and would initially accept 50 undergraduate and 20 graduate students. Zanzibar will join Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur as one of IIT’s three foreign campuses.
