Analysis of JEE Main, 2025 for Shift 2: Chemistry Easy, Physics and Maths Moderately Difficult

Based on the students’ as well as coaching experts’ insights, the JEE Main 2025 April 2, Shift 2 had a balanced, yet varied difficulty level across the subjects. Here is a granular analysis of the paper:
Contents
Overall Paper Pattern
- Total Questions: 90 spanning 30 questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- Question Type: Each subject contains 20 MCQs, plus 10 NVT per subject.
- Marking Scheme: +4 for a right answer, -1 for wrong answer (only for MCQ questions).
Subject Wise Analysis
1. Chemistry (Easiest Section)
- Organic Chemistry: Named reactions such as Cannizzaro and Aldol had straightforward NCERT based questions.
- Inorganic Chemistry: Coordination compounds and periodic trends were also very predictable.
- Physical Chemistry: Heavy on numericals but simple (Mole Concept, Thermodynamics).
2. Physics (Moderately Difficult)
- Electromagnetism: Numericals for capacitors and AC circuits were particularly tedious.
- Modern Physics: Questions regarding the photoelectric effect and semiconductors were conceptual.
- Mechanics: Time was significant for the kinematics and rotational dynamics problems.
3. Mathematics (Most Challenging)
- Calculus: There were some tough integration problems along with differential equations.
- 3D Geometry: Other complex questions pertained to planes and lines.
- Algebra: The relatively easier probability and matrix questions stood out.
Expected Cutoff and Student Reactions
- Students took the least time to solve Chemistry, while the most time was taken for Maths.
- Estimated Cutoff (General Category): 85-95 marks (might differ a little due to normalization).
Important Observations for Subsequent Sessions
Revise Chemistry NCERT textbooks – scored a lot here.
Work on timing in Physics calculations – moderate difficulty, but time-consuming.
Advance study in 3-D Calculus & Geometry – Maths was likely a discriminator.
