XAT 2023

XAT 2023 is conducted on Sunday, January 8, 2023. XLRI conducts XAT on behalf of XAMI. For quite seventy-two years XLRI is conducting XAT in any respect Asian country level to pick out the foremost applicable students for management education.

What is the XAT exam? 

XAT is the entrance test for admission to MBA/PGDM programs at XLRI and other top MBA colleges like XIMB, IMT Ghaziabad, IMI New Delhi, LBSIM Delhi, TAPMI Manipal, and other 160 other top MBA colleges in India. 

XLRI offers admission to this PGDM program offered at Jamshedpur and Delhi campuses based on XAT exam scores only and will not accept any other test scores. 

There are over 70 cities and over 100 locations where the XAT exam 2023 will be held in India. XLRI will introduce XAT

Over the years the Xavier Aptitude Test has evolved into a simpler test but to achieve a high percentile (90+) on this exam requires 4-5 months of serious preparation. 

Who takes the XAT exam? 

XLRI performs the XAT check on behalf of XAMI. For more than 70 years, XLRI has been running this exam across India to select the most suitable students for management education. 

Also last year, despite the Covid pandemic, XLRI conducted the XAT exam as the core exam in 72 cities in India.

XAT 2023 Notice 

  • The XAT 2023 Notice was issued by XLRI in a press release on August 9, 2022. 
  • The XAT 2023 notification contains exam information with the date of the exam and other important information related to the XAT 2023 exam. 
  • The notification will also be published on the XAT exam website XAT Online 2023 | XLRI
  • XAT Notice 2023 with all exam details, exam formats, exam centers, and all exam dates will also be published in major newspapers. 
  • Candidates taking the Xavier proficiency test have increased, as past exam registration details reflect this fact.

 XAT syllabus 2023

The 2023 XAT exam syllabus is divided into 4 sections: 

  • Verbal skills and reading comprehension 
  • Decision Making, 
  • Quantitative Adequacy, and 
  • General Awareness. 

Except for General Awareness, the other three core sections determine the percentile as well as the XLRI pre-screening criteria. 

At the time of the face-to-face interview, the score from the “Public Awareness” section will be considered. 

As of 2021, XLRI reintroduced the descriptive essay writing section of the XAT syllabus.

However, this section does not count towards the calculation of the XAT percentile either. 

A clear understanding of the updated XAT syllabus and exam structure before you start preparing is very important. Accordingly, major syllabus changes and major topics are some of the important things to know before preparing based on the exam syllabus. 

Major Section in the 2023 XAT Syllabus 

  • The 2023 Xavier Aptitude Syllabus generally assesses the candidate on verbal ability, reading comprehension, logical thinking; Deciding; Quantitative adequacy, and data interpretation as key areas in determining your percentile and ability to perform. 
  • The other section, General Consciousness (GC), has no predetermined syllabus and is not included in the percentile calculation. 
  • The Decision-Making section of the XAT syllabus is unique. as other MBA entrance exams such as CAT/NMAT/SNAP do not have such a section. 
  • XAT Top Picks state that those who perform well in the XAT decision-making area have a better chance of scoring high overall and being shortlisted by XLRI.
  • Also note that each question is scored equally, so the other three sections, except the GK section, are equally important parts of the XAT syllabus. 
  • GK and the writing of essays are not considered in the performance assessment. 
  • The XAT 2023 Preparation Strategy and XAT Preparation Books must comply with the revised XAT Entrance Examination Pattern and Syllabus. 
  • Preparing for the XAT exam requires specific preparation for the Decision-Making section, among other topics. 
  • When preparing for the XAT exam, you need to focus on the following: Follow the exam pattern: fully understand the structure, number, and type of questions.

  • The 2023 XAT curriculum includes 4 majors: 
  • Quantitative Skills and Data Interpretation, 
  • Decision Making, 
  • Verbal and Logical Skills, and 
  • General Knowledge. 
  • In addition, the XAT 2023 paper will also include an essay writing section, which will be assessed after the candidate has been shortlisted for the PI Round. 
  • The XAT Verbal and Logical Skills syllabus includes topics such as grammar, vocabulary, para jumbles, RC passages, and critical thinking. Check last year's XAT paper analysis
  • The XAT Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation syllabus covers key topics such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, the number system, and DI sets based on graphs, charts, and caselets. 
  • The XAT decision-making section is designed to assess thinking skills and resolution skills in different situations. 
  • The XAT DM quiz consists of 7 sentences with 3 questions each. The XAT exam pattern has also been revised and based on the updated XAT 2023 exam pattern, the exam consists of 101 questions (100 MCQ + 1 essay) to be attempted in 190 minutes. Please note the XAT exam pattern 2023
  • XAT GK syllabus is the most dynamic, covering both static GK and current affairs. Candidates should note that scores obtained in the GK portion of the XAT exam are not included in the percentile calculation. 
  • These are only considered in the last selection phase. XAT 2023 syllabus: Important changes 

  • Candidates should note that the XLRI syllabus and the XAT syllabus are identical. XAT Syllabus understands topics based on their appearance in previous years' XAT exams. 
  • The syllabus for the XAT 2022 exam consists of 4 sections with questions on the main topics defined in the syllabus. Here are some key changes to the 2023 XAT exam template and syllabus:
  • The number of sections has been increased from 4 to 5 due to the reintroduction of the essay writing section. 
  • The XAT syllabus consists of only these 5 sections: Verbal and Logical Skills Quantitative Skills and Data Interpretation Decision Making 25 points for each wrong answer. 25 GK questions in Part 2 are not rated negatively.

XAT Section Curriculum 2023 

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA & DI): 28 questions from this section are asked on topics such as measurement, algebra, geometry, number system, etc. The difficulty level of this section is usually high, so an accuracy of 70% is considered good. 

Verbal and Logical Skills (VA and LR): The questions in this section relate mainly to subjects such as critical and analytical thinking, vocabulary, reading comprehension, reasoning, etc.
Based on the trend from the previous year, there will be a total of 26 medium to high levels of difficulty in the Verbal and Logical Skills section of the XAT.

Decision Making (DM): This section asks 21 questions. This section is an interesting feature of the XAT exam and consists of questions on topics such as case studies, data layout, decision-making in each scenario, ethical dilemmas, etc. GK: The section is usually of moderate difficulty and there is no negative rating for incorrect answers. There are a total of 25 questions, each worth 1 point, in this section. 

Essay: There are 2 topics from which candidates must select 1 write a short essay of no more than 250 words.

XAT Syllabus 2023: Quantitative Skills and Data Interpretation (QA and DI) 

The XAT syllabus for Quant and DI is comprehensive and covers almost all mathematical topics. Candidates should pay more attention and effort in preparing for this section. 

Topics covered are taken from the 10th Standard Syllabus. Quantitative Ability: XLRI made significant changes to this section.

Questions on numbers, arithmetic, algebra, and geometry have become more important, and about 50% of quantification questions are based on these areas. 

Measurements, Venn diagrams, and numbers are other popular topics to ask questions about in XAT. 

Data Interpretation: Data tables, graphs, charts, bar graphs, data analysis, and comparison are the main subjects of DI, and the questions are mostly asked in sentences. The XAT Quant & DI section is designed to assess the student's calculation and implementation of the
achievement. There are 28 questions from this section and candidates are advised not to spend more than 2 minutes and 17 seconds solving each question.

The QA and DI section is considered the most difficult among all sections. For DI, 4-5 questions and for QA, 13-15 questions would ideally be a good try.

XAT 2023 Syllabus: Verbal and Logical Skills Verbal and Logical Skills 

The XAT 2023 syllabus has been divided into three parts, namely Verbal Skills, Reading Comprehension, and Reasoning. 

Verbal Skills: The XAT syllabus you must cover in this part includes English vocabulary questions such as filling in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, correcting sentences, using correct words, etc. Reading Comprehension: RC accounts for about 50% of the VALR check-off.

This part will take longer as it requires more focus and good reading and analysis skills. Topics for RC can be politics, economics, social awareness, literature, or abstract, 4-5 questions are based on critical thinking and involve analytical thinking, 26 objective questions come from this section. 

As there is no time limit per section, candidates should spend an average of around 50 minutes on this section.

The section may contain questions of medium to high difficulty. Ideally, 18-20 questions should be a good try for this section.

Frequently Asked Questions about XAT EXAM Syllabus 2023 

Q. Does XLRI provide a detailed XAT curriculum? 

Ans. No, XLRI does not explicitly publish a detailed XAT syllabus.

It only defines the sections that will be part of the exam. However, the questions asked in previous years' exams are intended as a guide to provide information about the important topics in each section and the nature of the questions asked. 

Q. Is it XAT? Is the curriculum similar to the CAT exam? 

Ans. The XAT syllabus for QA, DI, and VARC is similar to the syllabus for the CAT exam. XAT has 2 other sections that are not part of the CAT syllabus. These are decision-making and GC. 

Q. What is the best resource to prepare for XAT decision-making?

Ans. XAT The Decision-Making section has no set syllabus and is unique to the XAT exam. Therefore, it is best to solve as many questions as possible from the sample papers, mock tests, and quizzes from previous years. 

Q. What is the weight of the Quantitative Adequacy and Data Interpretation section in XAT?

Ans. The Quantitative Fitness and Data Interpretation section of the XAT consists of 28 MCQs, each worth 1 point. It has the highest weight on the XAT exam. Candidates are advised to prepare well for this section as this is also the most difficult section of the XAT exam. Although there is no time limit per section, it is recommended that you spend at least 60 minutes on this section of the 165 minutes.

Q. What is the overall and section time limit for the XAT exam? 

Ans. The overall duration of the XAT exam is 190 minutes. For Part 1 the full-time limit is 165 minutes and there is no section time division between the 3 sections from Part 1. Similarly, the time allotted to attempt the GK and Essay sections of Part 2 is 25 minutes. 

Q. Will XLRI release official XAT 2023 mock tests? 

Ans. Yes, XLRI publishes official mock tests each year before the exam. XLRI is launching the XAT Mock Exam 2023 in the last week of December 2022 as the exam will take place on January 1st, 2023. The Mock Exam will be a replica of the real XAT exam, helping candidates become familiar with the real-world environment of the exam.
