Why students are worried about CUET 2025 changes

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2025 has introduced several significant changes, leading to widespread concern among students. These modifications impact exam structure, subject choices, and the overall preparation strategy. Let’s delve into the key reasons behind the growing apprehension among aspirants.

1. Reduction in Subject Choices

Previously, students could select up to 6 subjects, but CUET 2025 has limited this to 5. Additionally, the total number of subjects has been reduced from 63 to 37, including 13 languages and 23 domain-specific subjects. Notably, subjects like Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, and Engineering Graphics have been removed. Admissions for these courses will now rely on the General Aptitude Test (GAT).

2. Confusion Over Subject Eligibility

The National Testing Agency (NTA) now allows students to choose any subject for the exam, regardless of their Class 12 background. However, many universities still require students to have studied specific subjects in Class 12 for admission. This discrepancy has led to confusion among aspirants about which subjects to select.

3. Technical Glitches During Registration

Students have reported numerous technical issues during the registration process, including server downtimes, payment failures, and OTP verification problems. These challenges have added to the stress of applicants, prompting many to request an extension of the application deadline.

4. Increased Exam Pressure Due to Time Constraints

The exam duration for each subject has been standardized to 60 minutes. This change has raised concerns about the feasibility of completing all questions within the allotted time, especially for subjects like Physics and Mathematics, which require complex problem-solving.

5. Removal of University and Course Selection in Application

In a surprising move, the CUET 2025 application form no longer includes sections for university and course selection. While this simplifies the application process, it has left students uncertain about how their scores will be utilized by different institutions. LinkedIn

The changes in CUET 2025 aim to streamline the examination process, but they have inadvertently introduced new challenges for students. Clear communication from the NTA and universities is essential to alleviate these concerns and ensure that aspirants can navigate the revised system effectively.
