National Seminar on ‘Basic Religious Education in Contemporary Educational Institutions: Prospects and Challenges’ at AMU

Aligarh: The Department of Islamic Studies at Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the Islamic Fiqh Academy (India), organized a two-day national seminar on ‘Basic Religious Education in Contemporary Educational Institutions: Prospects and Challenges’. The seminar aimed to explore the integration of religious education into modern academic frameworks to enhance ethical and moral values.

Professor Abdul Rahim Kidwai, Honorary Director of the Khaliq Ahmed Nizami Center for Quranic Studies at AMU, delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the historical significance of educational exchanges between Arab countries and Europe, emphasizing the role of religious education in promoting universal moral principles.

Professor Abdul Hamid Fazili, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies, underscored the importance of Islamic Studies in nurturing academic discourse and intellectual growth. He expressed gratitude to the Islamic Fiqh Academy, New Delhi, and AMU’s leadership for their support in organizing the seminar.

The seminar featured discussions by scholars such as Professor Abu Sufyan Islahi, who emphasized the Quran’s guidance on distinguishing between good and evil in both religious and worldly sciences. Dr. Safdar Zubair Nadwi, representing the Islamic Fiqh Academy, highlighted the significance of the seminar in bridging the gap between modern and religious education.

The event concluded with Dr. Bilal Ahmed Katti announcing the forthcoming publication of seminar papers in book form, aiming to extend the seminar’s impact beyond its immediate audience.
