The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is set to transform education with the launch of “Gyandhara,” India’s first VR-enabled metaverse platform for schools. Forget boring textbooks – students will soon be diving into immersive virtual reality experiences to master maths, science, and more, all in their local languages!

This groundbreaking project, a collaboration between IIT Guwahati, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Assam Government’s Department of Education, kicks off as a pilot program in 56 PM Shri Adarsh Vidyalayas across Assam later this year. The goal? To spark curiosity and creativity in students aged 13 to 18 by making learning engaging and accessible.

What’s Next?

The pilot program will cover maths, science, and social science for students in classes 8 to 12. Following the initial rollout in Assam, the plan is to expand “Gyandhara” to schools across the Northeast and eventually nationwide.
