The increase in CSIR NET Fellowship/Associateship Stipends for various fellowships has been announced by the Human Resource Development Group (HRDG), a division of CSIR. Official announcement states that the updated fellowships will go into effect on January 1, 2023. For the JRF-NET, JRF-GATE, SPMF, SRF, postdoctoral research, and other fellowships, the CSIR-HRDG has authorized an increase in stipends.

The payment has been enhanced from INR 31,000 to 37,000 for the first two years and from INR 35,000 to 42,000 after two years for JRF applicants who qualify through the CSIR NET.

CSIR Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Eligibility

After passing the National Eligibility Test (NET), which is typically administered by CSIR twice a year in June and December, candidates holding a BS-4 years programme, BE, B.Tech, B. Pharma, MBBS, integrated BS-MS, M.Sc., or equivalent degree, BSc (Hons), or equivalent degree holders, or students enrolled in an integrated MS-Ph.D programme are eligible to apply for a significant number of JRFs each year. 

Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any field—science, engineering, or another—will only be eligible for fellowships after enrolling in a Ph.D. or integrated Ph.D. programme within the JRF-NET certificate’s validity period, which is two years from the fellowship’s effective date as stated in the certificate.

Candidates who are enrolled in an M.Sc. programme or who have passed the aforementioned qualifying examination after 10+2+3 years are also qualified to apply for the above topic under the Result Awaited (RA) category.

AGE LIMIT: CSIR JRF FELLOWSHIP

The maximum age to apply for a JRF award is 28, although candidates from Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes, and Divyangjan (PWD) and female applicants have a 5 year age relaxation, while candidates from OBCs (non-creamy layer) have a 3 year relaxation.

RESEARCH FELLOW RESPONSIBILITIES

a) He or she must be a full-time researcher and conform to the disciplinary rules of the university, institute, or laboratory where they are employed. The department can guarantee the fellow’s regular presence by keeping an attendance log.

b) If a fellow intends to take a competitive test, they will always ask their guide for permission, and the guide’s contact information may be maintained on file at the Host Institute.

C) The Research Fellow shall not accept any assignment, whether paid or unpaid, that is not directly relevant to his or her authorised research programme. If necessary, the fellow may help the host institute with its academic work or other activities in accordance with the rules of its PhD programme, provided that such tasks do not impede the fellow’s progress with their own research projects.

d) After accepting the fellowship and joining, the research fellow is required to carry on the project for the whole length of the fellowship or for a shorter period of time during which the original goals of the research problem have been met.

E) No Fellow may end their Fellowship without first receiving CSIR clearance. If the fellow decides to end the fellowship before the tenure is complete and the initial research objectives have been met, he or she must notify the CSIR via the Guide one month in advance and provide precise justifications for ending the fellowship. Beginning on the date specified in the CSIR letter authorizing the resignation, the Fellowship will end.

(f) The study On conclusion of the term or resignation of the Fellowship through the Guide to CSIR, the Fellow is required to provide a thorough consolidated account of the research effort completed throughout the entire time of the Fellowship, in the stipulated proforma (Annexure-IX), within one month.
