IIT JAM 2024: Online Registrations to Begin From September 5, Important Dates, Know Eligibility Criteria Here

The Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2024 will be held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. On February 11, 2024, IIT JAM 2024 will be held for postgraduate course admission in participating institutions. Candidates for the exam must have earned a bachelor’s degree in science (BSc) or be enrolled in their last year of an undergraduate programme.
There is no age restriction for IIT JAM 2024 and it is accessible to all nationalities (both Indian and foreign). For general/OBC (NCL)/EWS category candidates, the qualifying requirements for IIT JAM stated that candidates should earn a minimum aggregate score of 55%, or 5.5 CGPA/CPI out of 10, and 50%, or 5.0 CGPA/CPI, for the reserved category candidates. But starting in 2022, this need was loosened.
The requirement for applicants is now a bachelor’s degree in a related field; there is no longer a cutoff for eligibility.
Candidates must also present a physical fitness certificate at the time of admission in addition to the documentation of their basic educational requirements. The accepting institute has the right to refuse admission to applicants deemed unfit to pursue their chosen science programme.

IIT JAM 2024: Exam Pattern
The entire 2024 IIT JAM test format is provided below:
- Exam mode: An online platform will be used to administer the test.
- Candidates will have three hours to complete the paper.
- The exam will only be administered in English.
- There will be a total of 60 questions in the test.
- There will be seven subjects on the test paper.
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions will all be included in the paper.
- The MCQs paper will have questions for one mark, the MSQs portion will have questions worth two marks each, and the NAT section will have questions worth one or two marks each.
- Negative Marking: For incorrect responses to questions carrying one or two marks, a percentage of the total mark will be subtracted. No marks will be subtracted from the MSQs and NAT portion.
