For the first time ever, a woman will serve as the director of the new international campus. The director of the Zanzibar campus will be Prof. Preeti Aghalayam, dean of the School of Science and Engineering at IIT Madras. 50 seats for the BS programme and 20 seats for the M Tech course will initially be made available by the institute.

An aptitude test including math, physics, English, and analytical skills would be part of the screening procedure for admission to IIT Madras’ Zanzibar programme. Those who pass the test will be contacted for faculty interviews. Class 12 or equivalent graduates are able to apply to the BS course, while those with a four-year undergraduate degree in any engineering or scientific field are entitled to apply to the MTech programme.
