IIM Kozhikode’s 15th Edition of Calicut Half Marathon to Celebrate Kozhikode’s City of Literature Tag



Kozhikode : The much-awaited 15th edition of the India’s VKC Calicut Half Marathon, organized by the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), is set to take place on February 23, 2025, at Calicut Beach. Registrations for the event are now open, marking the beginning of one of Kerala’s largest and most impactful sporting events.
The theme for this year’s marathon, “Words in Motion,” celebrates Kozhikode’s rich literary heritage and its recognition as a UNESCO City of Literature. Drawing inspiration from Kozhikode’s storytelling tradition, renowned authors, and literary festivals, the marathon aims to honor the transformative power of words in fostering connection, inspiration, and change.
Speaking at the launch event, Prof. Salamah Ansari, Convenor of the Calicut Marathon Committee, reflected on the marathon’s legacy in championing civic engagement and raising awareness on social causes. Prof. Rachappa Shette, Chair of Student Affairs, IIMK, highlighted the inclusivity of the marathon’s three categories:
- 21 km Half Marathon (Competitive)
- 10 km Mini-Marathon (Competitive)
- 3 km Dream Run (Non-Competitive)
The marathon boasts a total prize pool of ₹4 lakhs and welcomes participants from all walks of life.
Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, in his message shared “The Calicut Half Marathon is more than just a race; it is a celebration of community, culture, and resilience. This year’s theme, ‘Words in Motion,’ beautifully aligns with Kozhikode’s recognition as a UNESCO City of Literature, emphasizing the power of ideas and storytelling to inspire and transform. At IIM Kozhikode, we are proud to continue this legacy of fostering inclusivity, fitness, and social impact through this landmark event.”
Ayush Goel, Assistant Collector and Chief Guest for the launch, emphasized the significance of the theme and recounted his personal experiences preparing for the 21 km race, likening the journey to life’s challenges and triumphs. As an IIM Kozhikode alumnus, he encouraged maximum participation.
The launch also saw VKC Razzaq, MD of VKC India, and Ankush Agarwal, Chief Manager of Central Bank of India, reiterating their long-standing partnerships with IIM Kozhikode. They expressed pride in being part of an initiative that not only promotes fitness but also celebrates Kozhikode’s cultural legacy.
The event also included:
- The unveiling of the marathon logo by VKC, the title sponsor.
- The launch of the official marathon T-shirt and website by Central Bank of India.
The Calicut Half Marathon 2025 promises to be a unique blend of fitness, culture, and community spirit supported by VKC as the Title Sponsor, Central Bank of India as the Co-Sponsor, and supported by Cranberry (Sportswear Partner) and Raspberry (Energy Partner), the event is all set to inspire and engage.
