On August 3, 2023, virtually, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) inaugurated the freshly built structures at the four IGNOU regional centres in Jodhpur, Aizawl, Rajkot, and Trivandrum. K Sanjay Murthy, the secretary of higher education, and Sanjay Kumar, the secretary of school education, both represented the Indian government at the event.

According to a press release from the university, Sanjay Murthy, Secretary for Higher Education, and Sanjay Kumar, Secretary for School Education, Government of India, attended the ceremony.

Murthy praised the role played by IGNOU in the three years since the establishment of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and stated that the amenities at these Regional Centres would enable a wider outreach of higher education to the aspirant youth of the individual states.

Sanjay Kumar, secretary of school education, also praised IGNOU for taking quality education to the doorsteps of marginalised sections of society.

“IGNOU would continue to be a prominent name in the field of higher education across the country,” said Kumar.

According to the vice chancellor of IGNOU, the regional centres in Jodhpur, Aizawl, Rajkot, and Trivandrum would help students from underprivileged communities particularly those who live in rural areas as well as members of the SC, ST, and OBC populations as well as women fulfill their educational dreams.

K Sanjay Murthy commended IGNOU for its efforts to develop its infrastructure and offer affordable, high-quality education.

He was appreciative of IGNOU’s contribution since the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s introduction, praising its dedication to supporting regional languages and encouraging diversity via the use of technology in the classroom.
