‘G20 University Connect’ Lecture Series at XLRI Jamshedpur: Examines Global Perspectives in Education

As part of the G20 University Connect Programme, the Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur (XLRI) recently held an insightful lecture series titled “Engaging Young Minds.” The Research and Information System (RIS) for Developing Countries and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, worked together to organise the distinguished event.

Sanjay Bhattacharyya, a former secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and former ambassador to Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, and Egypt, served as the distinguished chief guest for this important programme.

The XLRI community, which includes students, employees, alumni, and management members, participated in the event.

Fr. S. George, S.J., Director of XLRI Jamshedpur, opened the ceremony by thanking RIS and MEA for allowing the institute to host the University Connect. He emphasised the importance of member countries working together to address issues including sustainability, energy, climate change, security, and peace.

The official G20 film introducing the Indian Presidency was shown to begin the G20 University Connect Lecture Session at XLRI. The video emphasised the honour and privilege that our nation has attained as a result of this chance. It also clarified the significance of this year’s theme, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Earth, One Family, One Future), which highlights the interdependence of all life forms.

The ‘G20 University Connect’ Lecture Series served as a forum for incisive dialogues and knowledge exchange while also fostering a global perspective in education. It was an important event for the academic community as well as the general public because it featured renowned speakers and specialists.

The session was preceded by a college activity in the shape of a G20 Essay Writing Competition for students, providing them with a venue to share their incisive ideas and participate in discussions on international affairs. As the G20 Summit under India’s Presidency draws near.

Their concepts have the ability to influence meaningful and significant dialogue on a global scale. The competition’s results were announced near the end of the event, and prizes were given to 18 students—3 from each topic group. The following topic groups were covered: women-led development; accelerated, inclusive, and resilient growth; progress towards the SDGs; technological transformation and digital public infrastructure; and multilateral institutions for the twenty-first century.)

The first lecture in the series was given by Bhattacharyya, who provided his perspective on the G20’s establishment, India’s aims during its Presidency, and the place of youth in this intercultural discourse.

After the fascinating presentation, students had the opportunity to speak with Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya in-person during a lively question-and-answer session led by Prof. Kalyan Bhaskar.

“We, the XLRI Jamshedpur Committee for Public Policy Research, had the wonderful chance to plan the event from beginning to conclusion. We held an article writing contest on campus in the lead-up to this event to educate the students on the G20 themes. Interacting with the ambassador and learning more about how India is influencing the current debate in all key multilateral platforms was a rewarding experience.
