For several categories of Ph.D. degrees, Delhi University (DU) has started the registration procedure. On Wednesday, August 2, the application period for admission to the DU Ph.D. programmes for the academic year 2023–24 will conclude.

There will be two steps to the DU Ph.D. programme registration process. They may also apply if they possess a teacher fellowship or are GATE-qualified.

Phase 2 of the procedure will allow all qualified candidates to submit applications. However, after the release of the results, those who would be qualified based on the entrance test will be shortlisted for interviews.

This year will be the first time that the Delhi University (DU) will admit candidates into the Ph.D. programmes using the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

The university opened its admissions portal on Wednesday and is currently accepting applications for 51 Ph.D. degrees across a number of departments and centres.

What did University Grants Commission Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar announce?

Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, chair of the University Grants Commission, stated, “We have not yet finalised the plan for CUET- Ph.D. on the lines that we are doing for CUET-UG and CUET-PG.”

Last year, the DU made admission to undergraduate programmes through CUET-UG mandatory, and this year, it will also make admission to postgraduate programmes using CUET PG mandatory.

The five-year LLB programme was among the resolutions passed at the executive council meeting when the decision on CUET PhD was made. Yogesh Singh, the vice chancellor, made the announcement on Wednesday as part of the portal launch.

In addition to this, the meeting also accepted the eligibility requirements and recommended seat matrix of the Medical Science Courses Admission Committee (MCAC) for admission to undergraduate (MBBS/BDS) courses for the 2023–24 academic session. According to officials, the MSc admission to the Respiratory Therapy programme would also fall under CUET (PG)-2023.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews following the release of the CUET (PhD) 2023 results.

On Friday, July 10, the Delhi University’s Executive Council (EC) approved plans to allow PhD admissions for the academic year 2023–2024 based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2023, according to officials with knowledge of the matter. The EC also announced three new B.Tech programmes and a four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) course as a pilot project.
