Delhi Govt Unveils New Admission Guidelines for Special Schools: A Step Towards Inclusive Education

The Directorate of Education (DoE) of Delhi has issued comprehensive guidelines for admissions to government-run special schools for the academic session 2025-2026. These guidelines cover entry-level classes, Classes 1 to 9, and Class 11, aiming to streamline the admission process and ensure inclusivity.

- Age Criteria:
- Admissions will adhere to specific age criteria as of March 31 of the academic year, with certain relaxations permissible. - Admission Procedures:
- Classes 6 to 9: Students from recognized schools will be admitted directly.
- Out-of-School Children (Class 6): An assessment will evaluate basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Classes 7 and 8 (Without Prior Schooling): Admission is possible upon submission of a parental undertaking.
- Class 9: Admission requires passing the previous class from a recognized school.
- Age Relaxations:
- Heads of schools may grant up to six months of age relaxation upon parental request.
- Students transferring from feeder schools with valid documents are exempt from age criteria.
- Class 11 Admissions:
- Eligibility requires passing the Class 10 examination.
- For National Institute of Open Schooling students:
- A minimum of 50% in five subjects is required for humanities without skill subjects.
- A minimum of 45% in five subjects is required for humanities with skill subjects.
- Provisions for Students with Disabilities:
- Blind Students: Admission requires a disability certificate or Unique Disability ID (UDID) card.
- Intellectual Disabilities: Admissions are limited to those with moderate to profound disabilities based on IQ levels.
- Admission Process:
- Admissions will be conducted online, prioritizing Delhi residents.
- If applications exceed available seats, a draw of lots will determine admissions.
