There are IIMs in India, and admission to these B-schools is not easy. IIMs have a strict admissions process, and all candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the CAT exam, as well as written ability tests and personal interviews.

The newer IIMs use a Common Admission Process (CAP), which IIM Ranchi is administering for the academic year 2021-2023.

Total number of seats in IIM

So, based on the cut-off percentile for the CAT exam and our intended course, we can submit an application to the specific IIM institute. Don’t fret when you don’t pass the CAT since there are many other exams also.

The entrance requirements, the cut-off percentage, the cost, the program educational experience, as well as quality can differ greatly between one IIM to another. So, it is strongly advised to go to the website for the institution you’re interested in for more information such as eligibility, selection procedure fees, selection process, etc We have included those official web sites for all IIMs as in our table. Also, it is recommended to determine the cutoff percentiles for each IIM as well as the cut off percentages for each IIM in the following section.

The selection process for IIM 2021

The individual Indian Institute of Management has their own criteria for selection and procedure. However, the commonality throughout all of them can be explored here. The primary criteria that is used by every IIM includes the CAT per centile. The cut-off of every percentile in the CAT of all IIMS is provided below for your reference. But, take note that this is the cut-off percentage expected for 2021. Therefore, it is recommended to confirm the eligibility criteria on the official website as well. If you meet the cut-off percentile for CAT The candidate will be requested to take the Writing Ability Test or WAT. Following the WAT, there is a Group Discussion, which is known as the GD, and an interview with a personal nature that is known as PI.

In based on the percentile of CAT the results in GD, WAT and PI, a total score will be assigned to each candidate. Based on this aggregate score, a shortlist and the list of waiting candidates are created. The lists are available through their respective websites.

The competition for entry into IIM remains extremely high. It’s also the number of seats at IIM which is a major aspect in selecting students. Another factor that determines what your percentage is best score or the highest ranker’s score. Because the amount of students who try the CAT every year is more than 2 lakh and the supply for IIM seats is less than 5000, the proportion of applicants who won’t be admitted regardless of what their score is very high (about 97 percent). Therefore, you must be sure to not just aim for a excellent but also the highest possible score on the CAT.

Calculation of the Cumulative Score

Alongside CAT, other aspects that are important are the proportion of marks scored in the 12th and 10th grades, marks from the bachelor’s program as well as the experience in work, and the results in GD, WAT and PI. In addition, extra marks are awarded to people of the third gender as well as females who are considered to be gender diverse. In addition, additional marks are also awarded to those who are not business-related like students in engineering or science.

The parameters and their weightage are given below:

  • CAT: 40
  • Class 10th Score: 20
  • Class 12th Score: 10
  • Graduation score: 20
  • Gender diversity: 2
  • Work experience: 10

Cut Off Percentiles

The IIM cut-off percentile is determined by a number of factors. To begin, the top IIMs, such as IIM Ahmadabad and IIM Calcutta, have a very high cut-off of around 99 percentile or 98 percentile. In 2017, 2018, and 2019, IIM Ahmadabad’s call cut-off was 99 percentile, while IIM Calcutta’s was 92 percentile top 100 percentile.

Aside from that, it is also determined by the difficulty of the CAT exam, the total number of candidates taking the CAT, and the total number of seats available at IIM. As a result, as we all know, the total number of seats in IIM is extremely limited, making it even more difficult to achieve the top percentile.

As a result, we have included the expected percentile for the 2020 CAT in the table below:Search:

S NO.IIMCut-off percentile

CAT Cut-Off Percentile vs the Shortlist Percentile

Another important thing to keep in mind is the distinction between the cut-off percentage for shortlists in comparison to the call cut-off percentage. The cut-off for short-list applicants is typically smaller and achieving the cut-off percentage of the short-list doesn’t mean you’ll be admitted. If you’re able to meet the shortlist cut-off percentage then you will be short-listed for WAT and PI. However, this doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be selected for WAT, the GD, or PI. The cut-off percentage for calls surpasses that of the cut-off percentage for short-list applicants and is released following the declaration of the outcome.

For instance, the shortlist cut-off rate in the case of IIM Ahmadabad was 80 percentile while the call cut-off rate is 100 percentile.

In the end, the brand the name IIM and the top-quality education and top rankings all over the world, make it a desire of an MBA hopeful to join IIM. But the main obstacle here is the number of seats at IIM as well as the number of test-takers and the scores of top-ranked students.

These elements make it hard for people with average or high scores to be accepted and admitted to IIM. Another option to gain admission to IIM is to choose the five-year integrated MBA program offered by IIM Rohtak and IIM Indore. This reduces the chance of not being able to meet the CAT cut-off rate of. Hence, if you don’t get into IIM, don’t get disheartened. There are numerous excellent business school options in India that are also ranked globally and are a good option for a candidate for MBA.
