The JEE Main is a standardized test that is conducted across various states in India. Several well-known technical and engineering institutions, whether privately or government-sponsored, offer admissions through the exam. It is administered at an undergraduate level. Exams are taken for several reasons, including:

• It is the only way engineering aspirants can land seats in some of the most prestigious technical institutes.
• For IIT aspirants, JEE Main is the first step towards admission to top IITs and colleges across the country through JEE Advanced.

It consists of two papers (JEE Main and JEE Advanced). Paper1 is conducted for admission into Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E./B. Tech) at National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Technology, Centrally Funded Technical Institutions ("CFTIs"), and institutions/universities funded or recognized by participating state governments, as well as the JEE (Advanced), which enables admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology.

On the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA), jeemain.nta.nic.in, the NTA will release the rank list after the conclusion of the JEE Main exams. All candidates who took part in any of the four sessions of the exam will be considered for the JEE Main Rank List 2021. The ranking system for JEE Main 2021 relies on the All India Ranks (AIRs) and Category Ranks (CRs) of all the candidates. From February 23 to 26, the JEE Mains session for February 2021 was held. The results for the February exam were announced on March 8, 2021. JEE Mains March session was held from March 16 to 18, followed by JEE Mains April session (20-27 July) and May session dates are revised, and the new dates are announced by the officials (August 26 )

National Testing Agency conducts JEE Main online for students who wish to pursue undergraduate engineering programs at India's leading engineering institutes. There are two phases to the Joint Entrance Exam for IITs. Both the January and April sessions of the JEE Main examination are conducted. 

The candidates can take the exam at their convenience. Candidates can also choose to take one or both exams. The exam conducting authorities will consider the better of the two NTA scores when preparing ranks and merit lists.

A total of three papers will be included in JEE Main. Students planning to take B.Tech courses will take Paper 1, while those planning to take B.Arch programs and B.Planning courses will take Paper 2A and 2B, respectively. In anticipation of the upcoming 2021 exam, NTA has introduced a new exam pattern. In December, the application and registration processes began for the upcoming February session. For JEE main 2021, why should rank be calculated using marks? The reason is that every candidate wants to know how many marks he or she will get in the JEE Main exam to get into the college of their choice after taking the exam. 

It is best to estimate what rank a candidate will get from their marks in the JEE (based on the score they achieved in the exam). Here's how to calculate rank based on marks, or how to compare marks and ranks.

The raw scores

Physicists, chemists, and mathematicians obtained separate percentile scores for each subject.

For each candidate, the following four percentiles will be calculated.

In the three subjects PCM, T1, M1, P1 and C1 represent the raw scores, while T1P, M1P, P1P and C1P represent the percentile scores.

As a result, the total percentile (T1P) is calculated as follows: 100 * Number of candidates with raw scores (equal to or less than T1) / number of candidates in the session.

MATHS percentile (M1P): 100 * No. of candidates appearing from the session with the raw score (equal to or less than M1 in MATHS) / total no. of candidates appearing in the session.

Physic percentile (P1P): 100 + the percentage of candidates in a session with raw scores (equal to or below P1 in Physics) / the total number of candidates in the session.

Percentile for Chemistry (C1P): 100 * No. of candidates with raw scores (equal to or lower than the C1 Chemistry score) from the session/no. of candidates in the session.

Factors affecting JEE Main Cutoff

JEE Main Marks vs Rank

As a matter of fact, the JEE Main Percentile is neither the raw marks obtained by the candidate (total marks or absolute marks) nor the percentage score (percentage of maximum marks). The JEE Main Percentile shows how a candidate has performed as compared to all other candidates. This percentage shows how many of the total numbers of candidates who took the exam scored less than or equal to that particular percentile.

How do Percentage and Percentile differ?

Percentile identifies the candidate's position among others, while percentage describes the candidate's marks. According to the percentile system, a student who scores in the 90th percentile has a better grade than 10 per cent of students above him/her. Percentiles for JEE Main are calculated using the formula:

[(No. of candidates appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate)/(Total number of candidates who appeared in the session)]x100

To calculate the percentile, the initial slot is used. For each session of examinees, a percentile score is calculated from 100 to 0.

Here is an example of how this formula works.

If a paper is worth 300 marks and four students have received different marks as follows:

The Student 1 - 240

The student 2 - 230

The student 3 - 160

The Student 4 - 40

There were 200 students who took the test, out of which Student 1 was ranked 1, Student 2 was ranked 2, Student 3 was ranked 8, and Student 4 was ranked 160th. (Position is synonymous with Rank here)

Students with more than 240 marks are not above him, so Student 1 with 240 marks is ranked 1. The total number of candidates who appeared on the test is 200, including Student 1 and the 199 students below. The formula would look like this:
