IIT Kanpur Marks 64th Foundation Day: Celebrations were made!

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, IIT Kanpur marked the 64th foundation day of the institution. The day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and vigor. The event started with the Lightning of the Lamp by Prof. S. Ganesh (officiating Director of IIT Kanpur). The event was enlighted by the presence of various officials including Dr. Nishanth Nair (dean of Digital Infrastructure and Automation), and Mr. Kapil Kaul (CEO of IIT Kanpur Development Foundation).

The chief guest of the ceremony was Dr. Abhay Karandikar (Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology) who was also the former Director of IIT Kanpur.

The event was organized mainly to honor 22 recipients across the categories which included institute fellows, distinguished Alumnus Awards, Distinguished Service Awards, Young Alumnus Award, and Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award.

November 1st: Antarang

The event was initiated on 1st November with ‘Antarang’, this was a vibrant cultural program organized by the students of IIT Kanpur. The program moved forward with events like exhibitions and classical dance performances. 

The evening was further carried by with a captivating Kathak performance by Rajendra Gangani. He is a leading supporter of the Jaipur Gharana style of Kathak. And also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contributions to the field of Kathak.

On 2nd November all the invited dignitaries and awardees graced the ceremony with their presence. The director of IIT Kanpur Prof. S Ganesh delivered the welcome address. 

He encouraged the students by adding “The 64th Foundation Day is a celebration of our journey from inception to the impactful institution IIT Kanpur has grown into today. This was especially a happy moment to welcome as Chief Guest, our former Director, Dr. Abhay Karandikar who is now the Secretary, of the Department of Science and Technology. As we celebrate this day and honor our alumni and other awardees, the institute is committed to striving harder for enriching research and development across sectors, and nurturing talents that can make a global impact.”

The chief guest of the event Dr. Abhay Karandikar (Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology) also motivated the students with his encouraging words.

Distinguished Alumnus Award

This year IIT Kanpur honored 12 alumni with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The awardees for the ceremony included Shri Durga Shankar Mishra (Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh), Mr. Anup Bagchi (CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance), Mr. Rajneesh Kumar (Group CPTO and co-founder of ixigo.com), and Mr. Anil Bansal (President of first national realty management and a board member of the Indo-American Arts Council), among others awardees.
