The Water Security and Climate Adaptation (WSCA) conference, with an emphasis on adaptation and mitigation via sustainable development, will be held at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) from October 4 to 7, 2023.

Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre (ABCD Centre) of the Institute is in charge of organising the conference. The emphasis is on underlining to scientists, engineers, politicians, and industry the necessity of sustainability in water-related challenges.

This conference’s main goal is to share information and practical expertise on the connection between climate change adaptation and best practise implementation and water security.

This is done to promote research methodologies in this area that will help the country get closer to achieving its targets for sustainable development and effective management of its water resources.

Mission of the DAAD

Through training, instruction, and research, the DAAD Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre seeks to solve the issues of “Water Security and Climate Adaptation.” This will make it easier to transmit knowledge and connect research, public policy, and the corporate sector to allow long-term climate adaptation options.

“Adaptation and Mitigation through Sustainable Development” is WSCA 2023’s main area of concentration. Given the current global tendencies that aim to attain sustainability and self-sufficiency in all spheres, it is especially important.

Early in September 2023, India will host the G20 summit in New Delhi, with the subject “Lifestyle for the Environment.” This summit will focus on environmentally conscious and responsible choices that may be made at both the personal and societal levels of development. A cleaner, greener, and bluer future will arise from these globally revolutionary initiatives.

With a distinct focus on governance and policy, which aid in the implementation of the above-arbitrated technologies and practises in actual field conditions, this conference will render a specific focus on the novel technologies for climate change adaptation, and best practises to achieve the said goals.

The conference will concentrate on the following topics:

A. New Technologies for Climate Change Adaptation

  1. Water Treatment
  2. Wastewater Treatment
  3. Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse
  4. Coastal Water Body and Infrastructure Protection
  5. Waste Management and Resource Recovery
  6. Reimagining the Traditional Knowledge

B. The Best Practices

  1. Nature-Based Water Excess Management
  2. Sustainable and Equitable Deficit Management
  3. Risk Evaluation, Mapping, and Building Resilience
  4. Water-Energy-Food Nexus
  5. Adaptive Planning, Design, and Implementation of Water Infrastructure

C. Governance and Policy

  1. Financing Climate Resilient Water Infrastructure
  2. Inclusive and Participatory Adaptation and mitigation Measures
  3. Institutional Structures and Capacity Building
  4. Examples of Good Governance
  5. Socio-Economic Hydrology
  6. Blue Economy
  7. Transboundary and Conflict negotiation and agreements

It facilitates a worldwide discourse, the translation of research findings into practise, and the training of future environmental leaders as a consequence of the collaboration of top scientific institutions.
