Zhejiang University Launches International Alliance for Teaching Museology in Universities


On November 23–24, the International Alliance of Teaching Museology in University (IATMU) was officially inaugurated at Zhejiang University, accompanied by its first major event, the 2024 International University Colloquium on Teaching Museology, held at the Zhejiang University Museum of Art and Archaeology. During the opening ceremony, representatives from member universities signed the Consensus of the Founding of International Alliance for Teaching Museology in University, marking the formal launch of this landmark initiative.
The alliance, spearheaded by Zhejiang University, brings together 16 top universities and institutions from across the globe, including University College London, the University of Leicester, the University of Glasgow, the Sorbonne Nouvelle University, the University of Amsterdam, the Australian National University, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Fudan University, and others. The alliance aims to establish a long-term framework for academic partnership, talent cultivation, and faculty-student exchanges.
The alliance seeks to elevate the global standards of museology education through professionalization, enhanced collaboration, and sustainable development. By fostering innovation and transformation in the museum sector, it aims to address critical challenges in talent development and professional expertise. By promoting global partnerships and sharing high-quality resources in teaching museology, the alliance is committed to creating new models, pathways, and ecosystems to shape the next generation of museum professionals, ushering in a new era for global museology.
