Young Scientist Award 2023: Merck invites applications; winner will be awarded Rs. 3.5 lakh
The third iteration of the Merck Young Scientist Award 2023 for young scientists in India has been declared. On June 26, 2023, the Merck Young Scientist Award application window opened. The deadline to register is August 16, 2023. Interested candidates can sign up at mpoweringlifescience.com
On November 24, 2023, will mark the announcement of the winners.
A research institute affiliation, less than ten years of post-Ph.D. research experience, and Indian residency are eligible for the young scientist prize.
Ten people will be recognized for the 2023 award program for their contributions to science. The fields of biological and chemical sciences will each provide two winners, and the environmental sustainability research category will produce one prize. Additionally, five runners-up will receive awards as well. The award for the winners is Rs. 3,50,000, and the prize for the runner-ups is Rs. 100,000. Prizes totaling Rs 22,50,000 will be given to ten winners, it said.
Three categories—biological sciences, chemical sciences, and sustainability research—will be included in the prize programme this year. The inclusion of the sustainability research category, according to the firm, aims to boost scientific research’s awareness of the environment and put more of an emphasis on green chemistry, renewable or alternative energy, sustainable materials, and manufacturing.
Anurag Agrawal, dean of Ashoka University, Radha Rangarajan, director of CSIR-CDRI, and Srinivas Reddy, director of CSIR-IICT, will serve as the jury’s chairpersons for the 2023 Merck Young Scientist Award.
A team of ten academics from different institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), BITS-Pilani, IIT Kharagpur, and CSIR-IGIB, will assess the applications.
