NEED of Word Youth Skill Day
In order to recognise the strategic significance of providing young people with the skills necessary for employment, respectable employment, and entrepreneurship, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed July 15 as World Youth Skills Day in 2014.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres wrote on UN websites, “Equipping young people with quality education, training, and skills is essential. This World Youth Skills Day reminds us that teachers stand at the forefront of this great global effort.”
SIGNIFICANCE of World Youth Skills Day
Every year on July 15, there is a celebration of World Youth Skills Day. The United Nations states that “technological advancements and shifting labour market dynamics call for agile and adaptable skill sets increasingly.” We must give young people the tools they need to successfully navigate these changes. Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is well positioned to meet these demands by lowering barriers to employment, ensuring that acquired skills are applicable, recognised, and certified, promoting green skills and practises, and providing opportunities for young people who are not currently enrolled in school, employment, or training to develop their skills.
World Youth Skills Day 2023 Theme: Skilling teachers, trainers, and youth for a transformative future
World Youth Skills Day 2023 will be held under the banner of “Skilling teachers, trainers, and youth for a transformative future.” It draws attention to the crucial role that educators such as teachers, trainers, and others play in preparing young people for the workforce and for active participation in their communities and societies.
On future Youth Skills Day, let’s come together to acknowledge the potential of young people as change agents and pledge to give them the opportunity and skills they need to create a successful and sustainable future for all.
What function do technical and vocational training and education serve?
The 2030 Agenda can only be realised via education and training. The Sustainable Development Goal 4 (“Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”) perfectly encapsulates the Incheon Declaration’s vision for education in the year 2030. Technical and vocational skill development receives a lot of attention in Education 2030, with a focus on affordable, high-quality TVET access, the acquisition of technical and vocational skills for employment, respectable work, and entrepreneurship, the eradication of gender disparity, and ensuring access for the most vulnerable. By assisting kids and adults in developing the skills necessary for employment, respectable labour, and entrepreneurship, fostering equitable, and sustainable communities, TVET is anticipated to address the numerous demands of an economic, social, and environmental nature.
