Volvo Car India Collaborates with Subodh Kerkar for a Thought-Provoking Road Safety Initiative
Kolkata : Volvo Car India unveiled a powerful message on road safety in collaboration with the globally renowned Indian artist Subodh Kerkar. As part of National Road Safety Month 2025, the initiative, titled “The Most Ignored Painting,” poignantly highlights the often-overlooked importance of pedestrian safety and the critical role of zebra crossings.
The centerpiece of this collaboration is a captivating artwork unveiled at an exclusive exhibition at The Stainless Gallery, New Delhi. Mr. Kerkar’s poignant creation depicts the stark reality of painting a zebra crossing at night, only to witness it vanish beneath a sea of vehicles the next morning. This powerful visual serves as a stark reminder of how these vital lifelines for pedestrians are frequently disregarded.
“Zebra crossings are more than just lines on the road; they are lifelines for pedestrians,” stated Subodh Kerkar, reflecting on his artwork. “Through this project, I aim to spark a deeper conversation about road safety and inspire a greater sense of responsibility towards pedestrians. Art has the power to move people and create meaningful change, and I believe this project can serve as an example of how art can be used to address crucial societal issues.”
“Safety is deeply ingrained in Volvo Car’s DNA,” said Mr. Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India. “Collaborating with a visionary artist like Subodh Kerkar allows us to transcend traditional communication and use art to ignite a powerful dialogue on road safety. This initiative underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and fostering safer mobility for all.”
The initiative has garnered significant attention on social media. Subodh Kerkar’s Instagram reel, wherein he talks about his “The Most Ignored Painting”, has resonated deeply with audiences, sparking conversations and generating widespread interest in the project.
