Tsinghua University Marks Milestone with the Establishment of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Committee

 On  December 31, 2024, the founding conference of the Tsinghua University Committee of the China Democratic League was held. Jiang Xin, full-time deputy chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League and director of the Internal Supervision Committee of the Municipal Committee, and Xu Qinghong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, director of the Organization Department, and director of the United Front Work Department, attended the conference and delivered speeches. Representatives of leaders of grassroots organizations of democratic parties at Tsinghua University attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Liu Miao, deputy director of the Organization Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League.

The conference read out the “Decision of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League on the Establishment of the Tsinghua University Committee” and elected the leadership of the first China Democratic League Tsinghua University Committee by secret ballot: Li Jun as chairman, Xiao Jianzhong, Xia Yu (female), and Li Haichang as vice chairmen, and Liu Fang (female), Liu Bo, Li Lei (female), Duan Haohong, and Lou Zhiyong as members.

Jiang Xin’s speech

On behalf of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League, Jiang Xin congratulated the establishment of the China Democratic League Tsinghua University Committee and the newly elected leadership team members, and expressed gratitude to Tsinghua University for its long-term support for the China Democratic League organization. Jiang Xin said that the establishment of the China Democratic League Tsinghua University Committee is a concrete measure taken by the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League and the Tsinghua University Committee of the Communist Party of China to jointly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on upholding, developing and improving China’s new party system. She put forward four requirements for the leadership team of the China Democratic League Tsinghua University Committee: First, improve political standing, deeply understand the significance of establishing the committee, always maintain the correct political direction, and ensure that the cause of multi-party cooperation is passed on from generation to generation; second, strengthen ideological and political guidance, build consensus and gather strength, build a solid ideological position, and consciously be a propagandist for the cause of multi-party cooperation; third, give full play to the characteristics of the party sector, perform duties and serve the overall situation, and write a new chapter in promoting the construction of a strong country and realizing the great cause of national rejuvenation; fourth, promote self-construction, continue the fine traditions, and promote the formation of a new situation in the development of grassroots organizations of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League.

Xu Qinghong delivered a speech

On behalf of the Tsinghua University Party Committee, Xu Qinghong congratulated the establishment of the Tsinghua University Committee of the China Democratic League, and fully affirmed the China Democratic League Tsinghua University branch for fulfilling its functions and serving the overall situation over the years, and for its outstanding achievements in school construction and national development. He thanked the Central Committee of the China Democratic League and the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League for their concern and support for the construction of the grassroots organizations and the development of the talent team of the school. Xu Qinghong expressed the hope that the Tsinghua University Committee of the China Democratic League can take the establishment as an opportunity to strengthen ideological and political guidance and strengthen ideals and beliefs; actively perform the functions of a participating political party and serve the overall situation of national development; strengthen its own construction and improve organizational vitality; deepen school-local coordination, strengthen the performance of duties, and make new and greater contributions to further comprehensively deepen reforms, promote high-quality development, and serve the construction of an education power.

Shi Lin’s congratulatory speech

Shi Lin, chairperson of the Tsinghua University Committee of the China Democratic League and professor of the Department of Energy and Power, congratulated the establishment of the Tsinghua University Committee of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party and the newly elected first leadership team on behalf of all democratic parties in the university. Shi Lin expressed the hope that the democratic parties in Tsinghua University would strengthen exchanges and cooperation, work together to promote high-quality development, and jointly contribute to improving the quality of education, promoting social harmony, and building a modern socialist country in an all-round way.

Li Jun made a speech

Li Jun, the new chairman of the Tsinghua University Committee of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party and professor of the Department of Chemistry, spoke on behalf of the first leadership team, thanking the organization and party members for their trust and support. Li Jun said that he would strengthen his political position, serve the overall interests of the country, unite all members of the Tsinghua University Committee of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, give full play to the advantages of Tsinghua’s high-level talents, strengthen self-construction, forge ahead, work hard, make suggestions for the development of the school and the country, and contribute wisdom and strength to promote scientific and technological innovation, social development and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The establishment of the Tsinghua University Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party is a new progress in the construction of democratic party organizations at Tsinghua University. With this as a sign, all seven democratic parties at Tsinghua University have established committee organizations.
