The Mahatma Gandhi University’s Business Innovation and Incubation Center (BIIC), located in Kottayam, Kerala, will act as a focal point for efforts to develop 27 business concepts into viable businesses that might benefit society as a whole.
The Kerala Startup Mission is supporting the BIIC’s research incubation programme, which aims to promote entrepreneurship among researchers, professors, scientists, post-graduate students, and other people. The goal of the initiative is to turn research findings into societally beneficial products, technologies, and services. The project was launched in Thiruvananthapuram at the beginning of the month.
Out of the 153 candidates, 19 people may be part of the programme. Additionally, the focus of the eight researchers chosen for the Kerala Startup Mission’s National Research Innovation Challenge 2022 will be BIIC. A grant worth Rs 1 million will also be given to them for efforts related to research incubation.
A few of the venture ideas that will be turned into industrial enterprises include those in the fields of life science, biotechnology, healthcare, medical device technology, water conservation, environment, climate change, nanotechnology, agriculture, fisheries, assistive technology, energy, value addition, waste management, business, tourism, artificial intelligence (Al), machine learning, engineering, and social and rural technology. The programme is being carried out with the premise that research is only effective when it serves society, according to the university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Sabu Thomas. According to the Center’s director EK Radhakrishnan, a contract has been signed between the Central Travancore Chamber of Commerce and the BIIC, a company that belongs to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
