As Delhi University on Wednesday opened its doors for the new academic session, student organizations are doing everything in their power to win over the hearts of nervous freshmen making their way to campus.

As Delhi University opened its doors on Wednesday for the start of the new academic year, student organizations are doing everything in their power to win over the hearts of nervous freshmen who are making their way to campus. Student organizations have taken it upon themselves to help the nervous first-year students get through the nerve-racking first days, from setting up help desks to guiding the freshers through the maze of lanes and bylanes, decorating colleges to handing out chocolates.

Many freshmen were anxious, though some were excited to start college. There were several students who had parents with them. Colleges like Kirorimal College and Daulat Ram College were decked out in rangolis, and the main gates were flower-decorated. Additionally, greeting posters for the new students were posted everywhere.

Volunteers from the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) gathered at the gates of Ramjas College and a number of other institutions to greet the freshmen with flowers before directing them to their orientation rooms. Volunteers were seen at the help desks introducing the group to newcomers and giving them ABVP information pamphlets.

“We started making the posters at four in the morning. Help desks have been installed in every college” said Shivam Tiwari, president of the ABVP chapter at Ramjas College. “We wanted to extend a grand welcome to the freshers, so we decorated the colleges with flowers and rangoli,” he said. At the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station, members of the Students’ Federation of India and Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) could also be seen handing out flyers. “We are assisting all of the newcomers. If they encounter any difficulties, our volunteers are assisting them “Ambuj, a KYS activist, said.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI)

which is affiliated with the Congress, welcomed the new students with flowers and chocolates. “Students shouldn’t feel as though they are entering an unfamiliar setting. All of the first-year students were welcomed by us seniors because Delhi University is a large family “said Lokesh Chugh, the NSUI leader. The volunteers who “went out of their way to help them” received high praise from the freshmen as well.

“Seniors and volunteers provided excellent support. We are at ease. They’ve given us all the information,” Ritika, a freshman at Daulat Ram College, spoke up. Many colleges held orientation events to inform new students about the course offerings, organisations, and committees.
