Rs 300 Crore To Be Contributed For Medical Aid For Infra Development Of Assam Medical College

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, declared on Thursday that his state’s government would give the Assam Medical College (AMC) financial support for the construction of its facilities worth Rs 300 crore. On the occasion of the platinum jubilee celebrations for the Dibrugarh Medical Institute, the Chief Minister lavishly praised British philanthropist Dr. John Berry White and Assam’s first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi for their roles in creating AMC. He pointed out that throughout the course of the previous 75 years,the Assam Medical College (AMC) has produced a number of doctors who are now thought to be leaders in their respective specialties.

The state government “would contribute Rs 300 crore to AMC for the establishment of instructors’ quarters and student hostels,” according to Mr. Sarma. The CM reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing AMC with the appropriate assistance as it transforms into a cutting-edge research facility outfitted to tackle contemporary ailments.

He praised the AMC for upholding its long history of excellence in medical training and care and urged the college administration to begin its expansion and development in line with its legacy.

The Chief Minister asked the AMC to collaborate with the state government and IIT-Guwahati on “high-end” medical research. Kamakhya Prasad Chakraborty, a member of the 1947 graduating class, was honoredon this occasion by Mr. Sarma. He issued an AMC Platinum Jubilee commemorative postal stamp.

In honour of the British benefactor, the CM requested that the vice chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, to which AMC and other medical colleges are attached, establish a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh for the year’s top MBBS graduate. Nine advanced life support ambulances that the ONGC donated as part of its CSR initiatives were waved off by him.
