Refresher course for Urdu teachers begins at AMU

ALIGARH : The Centre of Professional Development of Urdu Teachers (popularly known as the Urdu Academy), Aligarh Muslim University organized a week-long Urdu Refresher Course on “Teaching of Urdu Language and Literature: Modern Methods and Possibilities” for the school teachers belonging to the AMU schools.
Addressing the inaugural session of the programme, the chief guest, Director, Directorate of School Education, AMU, Prof Asfar Ali Khan said that Urdu is a major language in the world which came into existence with the mutual interaction of different cultures in India, and it is the need of the time to adopt technology based modern ways to teach Urdu.
He said that the language has the potential to draw interest of the new generation if technological advances are properly utilized to make a reach to the people who are passionate about Urdu poetry.
The guest of honour, former Director of the Centre, Dr. Rahat Abrar stated that every language has its own importance, and keep changing with times to make itself relevant to modern needs. Urdu language has also passed through a number of changes over the time and it has become even more popular among non-Urdu people, especially the youth, who are mesmerized by the Rekhta programmes.
He urged the Urdu teachers to employ modern tools to make the Urdu teaching interesting to young children in schools.
Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants, the Director of the Centre, Prof Quamrul Hooda Faridi highlighted the salient features of the refresher course, adding that it is imperative for the Urdu teachers at school level to go through the training that equip them with modern teaching skills through AI-empowered gadgets.
He said that the teachers need to look beyond the traditional classroom teaching, and engage the students with the help of modern teaching tools.
He said that Urdu teachers from 10 AMU schools are participating in the refresher course, which will conclude on February 5.
Dr. Mushtaque Sadaf conducted the programme, while Dr. Rafiuddin extended a vote of thanks.
