Smriti Zubin Irani, the minister of women and child development, informed the Lok Sabha today that around 10.11 crore beneficiaries had been enrolled under the POSHAN Abhiyaan. The programme was introduced on March 8, 2018, according to the minister, to enhance the nutritional status of children aged 0 to 6 years, adolescent females, pregnant women, and nursing moms.

“Poshan Abhiyan is part of the Integrated Nutrition Support Programme, Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, which includes Anganwadi Services and Scheme for Adolescent Girls,” the written statement reads.

2,11,05,303 beneficiaries have been enrolled from Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar is second on the list with 1,03,82,035 beneficiaries.

Aadhaar verification is required in order to use the mission’s services. Aadhaar has been confirmed for almost 94% of the beneficiaries who have enrolled with the information and communication technology (ICT) application Poshan Tracker.

According to Smriti Irani, community-based events (CBEs) and Jan Andolans in the form of Rashtriya Poshan Maahs and Poshan Pakhwadas have focused heavily on behaviour change communication, or BCC. Almost 3.70 billion community-based events have been held over the past four years.
