NSS volunteers at AMU Malappuram Centre hold a special residential camp at a school

ALIGARH : The NSS Unit of Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre, Kerala organized a seven-day special residential camp, Sankalp, at the Government Higher Secondary School, Kunnakkavu under the theme, “Youth for Sustainable Development and Digital Literacy”.

The camp, formally inaugurated by Mr Sudheer Babu (Elamkulam Panchayat President), began with the hoisting of the NSS flag by Ms. Jaya (Headmistress of the school), and featured the creation of a nutritional garden at the school, wall art painting at Malayangad Anganwadi centre and beautification of the school campus.

 The volunteers participated in various activities aimed at skill development and social awareness held under different sessions on group dynamics, leadership training and language training to enhance interpersonal and communication skills. Debating sessions were held on relevant topics, including gender-neutral laws, along with sessions on yoga and awareness programmes on disaster management and waste management.

The volunteers, along with the residents of Sai Snehatheeram tribal hostel organized a festive programme to mark the holy Christmas and the New Year and participated in various games and cultural presentations.

The camp also featured awareness sessions on traditional Siddha by Mr Mithun C., Government Siddha Medical Officer, Elamkulam, sustainable waste management practices by Suchitwa Mission, Government of Kerala, a friendly football match and a cultural evening.

About 42 NSS volunteers engaged in campus cleaning at the school and received certificates of participation from Dr. Faisal KP, Director, AMU Malappuram Centre.

Dr. Raghul V. Rajan (NSS Programme Officer) and Dr. Shally Victor (Assistant Programme Officer) guided the volunteers, while the four volunteer secretaries, Afina S.S., Sidra Fatima, Nadim Akhter and Yunus V.I. led them to complete various activities.

The camp concluded with the plantation of a curry leaf sapling as a symbolic gesture of sustainability.
