NMC to conduct NEET PG 2024 in March? Shares Tentative Exam Date, Draft on PGMER Regulations

The National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) has requested feedback on the draft Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations (PGMER) 2023. The restrictions have sparked much discussion, as the National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 tentative date has been given by the NMC. NEET PG 2024, if held, will be held in March 2024, according to NMC norms.
The National Exit Test (NExT), which is meant to take the role of the NEET PG exam, was initially scheduled to be held for the current MBBS batch the next year by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS Delhi. Nevertheless, NMC decided to postpone the exam till further notice after consulting with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The draft of PGMER 2023’s fourth chapter discusses medical school admission and counselling. According to the postgraduate broad specialty admission timetable NMC has created, “As per NExT Regulation or in case admission is to be based on NEET-PG, then Exam will be conducted in the month of March.” The next academic session 2024–25 will begin in July, and the NEET PG counselling procedure will start in May.

Exam Pattern: NEET PG 2024
Following is information on the NEET PG exam format:
- The NEET PG test will be administered through online CBT.
- The paper will be available in English.
- The exam will be administered in one shift on a single day.
- There will be 200 questions in the paper, and the student must check the appropriate answer for each one. The total time allotted to finish the exam is 3 hours 30 minutes.
- There will be 4 marks given for each accurate response.
- There will be multiple-choice questions on the test.
- For each incorrect response, one mark will be subtracted.
