NIT Rourkela Successfully Concludes the Annual Sports Fest ‘VRIDDHI 2025’


The three-day Annual Sports Fest, VRIDDHI 2025, at NIT Rourkela successfully concluded on January 26, 2025, marking a significant sporting event for the institution that brought together participants from various institutions across Odisha. Over 600 students, including 150 students from NIT Rourkela, competed in the fest, representing 10 institutions. Athletes participated in various sports tournaments including Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Chess in the men’s category, along with BGMI (Online Gaming), Kho-Kho, Basketball, and Badminton in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Commenced on 24.01.2024, VRIDDHI 2025 saw the participation of prominent institutions from Odisha; CV Raman Global University, GIET University, Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (Sarang), Jeypore College of Pharmacy, National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Silicon University, Sri Sri University, and VSSUT (Burla). NIT Rourkela emerged as the winner in several categories, securing 1st position in Women’s Basketball, Kho Kho (Men and Women), Table Tennis, Chess, and BGMI (online gaming). GIET University won cricket and men’s basketball. VSSUT claimed victories in Football and Men’s Badminton. OUTR secured a winning position in Women’s Badminton, and CV Raman Global University won in Volleyball.
At the valedictory function held on 26.01.2025, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director of NIT Rourkela) awarded the winners, runners-up and players of the tournament of each sports category. He was joined by other esteemed faculty members, including Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar), Prof. Rajeev Kumar Panda (President, Student Activity Centre), and Prof. Anil Singh (Head of Safety and Security), who all congratulated the players for their dedication and competitive spirit. Praising the participants for their remarkable efforts at the closing ceremony, Prof. Rao said, “It fills me with great pride to see the enthusiasm and teamwork that has defined VRIDDHI 2025. This event has highlighted the exceptional talent and commitment of students while strengthening the bonds between institutions across Odisha. Congratulations to all the winners and participants; your dedication and passion have made this competition a memorable success. Let’s continue to nurture excellence in both academics and sports in the future.”
The event was meticulously coordinated by Prof. Mohd Khalid Gul and Prof. Venkata R. Naik, Vice Presidents of the Games and Sports Society, along with Mr. C. Alagesan, SAS Officer and student volunteers of NIT Rourkela, who ensured the smooth conduct of this sports event and the comfort stay of the participants. After an exciting and competitive series of sports, the event concluded successfully with memories of spirited competition and a strong sense of teamwork among the participants.
