ABOUT NIPUN BHARAT
The goal of the education system, according to NEP 2020, is to attain universal basic literacy and numeracy in primary school by 2025.
Only until our pupils have successfully completed this most fundamental learning need (i.e., reading, writing, and maths at the foundational level) will the remaining provisions of this Policy be applicable to them.
The Ministry of Education will set up a National Mission on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy as a top priority to achieve this goal.
As a result, all State/UT governments will right away create an implementation plan for achieving universal basic reading and numeracy in all primary schools, establishing stage-by-stage targets and goals to be accomplished by 2025, and closely following and monitoring progress of the plan’s many components.
Objectives of NIPUN
Assess learning outcomes: The study seeks to offer accurate and valid data about Grade 3 students in order to understand their level of proficiency in fundamental reading and numeracy skills as well as the extent of learning outcomes attained.
Create a baseline for NIPUN: The FLS Study data would be used to help create a baseline for the NIPUN Bharat mission.
Establish benchmarks: The project also intends to establish numeracy competency benchmarks and reading proficiency benchmarks for each of the 20 languages being tested under the project.
Report on SDG: This study will also give information to report on global SDG 4.1.1 indicators.
ABOUT Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN)
The most crucial time for a child’s growth and development is between the ages of 0 and 8, as this is when the foundations for all learning and holistic development are set.
Children who take part in high-quality early childhood education courses show significant improvements in social, academic, and intellectual arenas, which sets them apart from children who don’t.
Building solid foundations early on has a long-term effect on children’s development and is seen as a key factor in increasing children’s enrollment and participation in formal education. According to research, high-quality early learning and early childhood education curricula
Achievements in Study
For the Data analysis, with the help of psychometrics, the analysis has been done. There are standards for numeracy as well as for oral reading fluency and comprehension in 20 different languages.
As a first step, a preliminary report on benchmark setting for oral reading fluency and reading comprehension in 20 languages has been prepared. National report cards, State report cards, and technical reports would be prepared based on the FLS.
