As part of the G20 finance ministers’ cultural supper on Sunday, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Gandhinagar in Gujarat will host a fashion show that draws its inspiration from the ‘panchtatva’ or five elements, an ancient body of knowledge.

The G20 summit attendees, according to the NIFT Gandhinagar, will see the country’s rich cultural legacy and thriving fashion sector on display at this event. Every part of the event has been organised and carried out by teachers and students to highlight Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mission LiFE’ vision, the statement stated.

The NIFT stated in a release on Saturday that the event would provide international leaders attending the G20 meeting a glimpse of India’s rich cultural heritage and thriving fashion sector.

According to the statement, teachers and students at NIFT worked with director Sameer Sood to organise and carry out every part of the event in order to highlight Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mission LiFE” philosophy.

According to the institute, the event provides a forum for the display of Indian traditional crafts on a global scale, representing the interdependence and unity of all living and non-living things.

“Inspired by the wisdom of the Panchtatva or Five Elements, namely wind, fire, earth, water, and sky, our showcase exemplifies the deep reverence for these essential elements found in ancient Indian scriptures from the Rig Veda to the Ramcharitmanas,” Sood’s statement reads.

Jacquard and Mashru weaves are combined with beautiful techniques like Marori, Zardozi, and foil printing in the wind sequence, which transports the viewer on an eternally transforming voyage through the mythical city of Banaras.

The water series integrates artisanal block printing (ajarakh, bagru, and bagh) and resist dying (bandhani, batik, laheria, and shibori) methods from India, China, Japan, and Indonesia.

Similar to that, he remarked, the Earth sequence displays the creativity of “Mata Ni Pachedi,” “Pichhvai,” and “kalamkari.”

Three of the five sequences were designed and presented by NIFT Gandhinagar in partnership with renowned Indian designers Ritu Beri, Anju Modi, and Payal Jain, the institute announced.

On July 17–18, Gandhinagar will play home to the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors (FMCBG), with 66 delegations anticipated to attend. The meeting will cover topics pertaining to the international financial system and the global economy. These activities are a part of India’s G20 presidency.
