The National Medical Commission (NMC) has began deliberations after the Union Health Ministry requested that it consider reducing the fees for the mock National Exit Test (NExT) for the 2019 batch of final-year MBBS students throughout the country on July 28. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi will host the NExT on July 28. According to a notification published last week by the renowned medical college, “General” category and OBC candidates will be need to pay Rs 2,000 each to appear in the mock test, while SC, ST, or EWS applicants will be required to pay Rs 1,000. Persons with qualifying disabilities will not be charged a price to take the examination. The AIIMS, for example, The task of conducting the mock test has been assigned to the AIIMS in Delhi. According to sources, the exam would be computer-based and will comprise of multiple-choice questions.

the motive of the online test is to introduce the students to the computer based tests, software, and the process of exam. The NExT will be held in two rounds for the 2019 batch of final-year MBBS students next year. On Friday, the NMC announced the NExT (National Exit Test) Regulations, 2023, noting that the exam will be held in two phases, with NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 exams held twice a year.

The mock test is designed to familiarise potential candidates with the computer-based test, software interface, and procedure flow at examination centres. The NExT will be held in two rounds for the 2019 batch of final-year MBBS students next year. On Friday, the NMC announced the NExT (National Exit Test) Regulations, 2023, noting that the exam will be held in two phases, with NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 exams held twice a year.

According to the NMC Act, NExT will serve as a common qualifying final-year MBBS exam, a licentiate exam for contemporary medicine practising and merit-based admission to postgraduate courses, and a screening exam for foreign medical graduates who wish to practise in India. The government invoked the provisions of the NMC Act in September last year, extending the time restriction for administering the NExT for final-year MBBS students until September 2024. The NMC Act requires the commission to conduct a common final-year undergraduate medical examination, NExT, as prescribed by rules, within three years after its implementation. The Act will go into effect in September 2020.
