JNU Issues a Road Safety Advisory to Reduce Road Accidents on Campus

The Advisory from the security department, JNU has issued safety measures to prevent road accidents on campus. The safety protocols are released while considering the recent motorbike where a student died on Campus whereas two were heavily injured.
In their official notice, JNU mentioned “the tragic motorcycle accident on the JNU campus a few days ago, in which one of our students lost his life and other two were heavily injured the following measures are being recommended. You are advised to follow them in letter and spirit to prevent further road accidents on the campus.”
On Saturday, October 28, Anshu Kumar and his friend Vishal Kumar both BA students crashed with two other students while crossing the road. Where Anshu died on the spot, his friend Vishal is in critical condition now. The other two students Sachin Sharma and Mrigank Yadav were also taken to the hospital immediately.
After a proper police investigation, it was found that Anshu had extended the speed limit as well as was driving without a helmet.

JNU has issued the following measurements and students are advised to follow these steps to prevent further road accidents on campus:
- The maximum speed limit for light and two-wheeler vehicles is up to 25 KM/Hr and up to 20 KM/Hr for heavy vehicles.
- Pedestrians should always walk on the footpath and not step over on the road.
- Two-wheeler riders (driver and pillion) should always wear helmets.
- Four-wheeler drivers and all other passengers should wear seat belts as well.
- Use of mobile phones by drivers of any vehicle while driving is prohibited.
- Consumption of alcohol and other dangerous drugs is prohibited in JNU Campus.
- All the provisions of the Central Motor Vehicle Act and Rules 1988-89 as amended over time are applicable in the JNU Campus as in the rest of the country. All Must abide by these rules.
- There should be no parking of any vehicles on any road on the campus. Parking should be only at designated places only.
- Any traffic violation may be reported on Mobile (& WhatsApp) No. 8287851942. Also, photos and Videos would be issued with them too.
- All the violations of the above will be reported to the appropriate authority and action may be taken against the violator.
The University has stressed that two-wheelers are especially expected to follow these rules, and violations of these will have strict action against them.
