Jamia Millia Islamia Likely to take Decision on Implementation of CUET in January

Jamia Millia Islamia

According to a senior official on Thursday, Jamia Millia Islamia will likely decide in January whether to use the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to all undergraduate programmes starting with the next academic session.

To decide whether to implement the CUET, which was launched earlier this year, for all courses, the varsity organised a committee.

The university admitted students to 10 programmes this year. “We established a committee to investigate CUET’s implementation. The committee is investigating the situation. According to Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, the registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia, the committee is anticipated to issue a report in this regard soon.

The committee’s report will be given to the Academic Council during a meeting in January, and the Executive Council—the university’s highest decision-making body then discuss it.

“The topic will be discussed by the academic council in a meeting in January. After that, the EC will discuss the issue, Jafri continued.

At Jamia Millia Islamia University, only admission to 10 undergraduate courses was handled using the CUET this year. For applicants looking to enrol in these courses, JMI created a registration portal in August. The ten classes included BA (Hons) Turkish Language and Literature, BA (Hons) Sanskrit, BA (Hons) French and Francophone Studies, BA (Hons) Spanish and Latin American Studies, BA (Hons) History, BA (Hons) Hindi, BA (Hons) Economics, BSc Biotechnology, BVoc (Solar Energy), and BSc (Hons) Physics.

For admissions to UG courses in the academic year 2022–2023, the majority of central institutions in the nation’s capital adopted CUET, either in full or in part. All central institutions must now admit students using the CUET, according to a mandate issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in March. The first administration of the CUET saw more than 14 lakh applicants.
